Chris Bosh’s season is now officially over, regardless of how far the Miami Heat advance in the postseason. The Heat and Bosh made the announcement Wednesday afternoon after the team practiced in Toronto, ending the recent speculation that Bosh would try to return to the court during the playoffs. It’s the second consecutive year that Bosh’s season ended at the break because of problems with clotting, and the joint statement came one day after the National Basketball Players Association urged Bosh and the team to resolve any issues they have about his immediate future.

The NBA said Tuesday there were five incorrect non-calls on the wild final sequence in San Antonio, including a foul on Oklahoma City’s Dion Waiters that referees earlier had already acknowledged they missed. The league agreed with the refs that Waiters should’ve been whistled for knocking Manu Ginobili back with his elbow to create space to throw an inbounds pass, but also ruled in its Last 2 Minute report that Ginobili first committed a delay-of-game violation by stepping on the sideline as he was defending. The inbounds play began a frenzied final 13.5 seconds in the Thunder’s 98-97 victory over San Antonio on Monday in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals.

Slaying of former Saints player resonates in city he loved (Yahoo Sports)

People across Louisiana sought to process the news that one of the Saints’ much-loved players, former defensive end Will Smith, was shot in the back Saturday night in what police called a deadly act of road rage. Smith, 34, arrived in New Orleans in 2004 as a No. 1 draft pick and played with such passion and power that he quickly became a defensive captain. Off the field, he won hearts in his adopted city, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and rejuvenated when the Saints won the Super Bowl in 2009.

Chip Kelly went three-and-out – much like his inconsistent offense. Kelly was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday night with one game left in his third season, completing a dramatic drop for a coach who was heavily recruited and lauded as an offensive genius only a couple years ago. Kelly was dumped after missing the playoffs for the second straight season and failing miserably in his first year in charge of personnel.

DeMarcus Ware put the clamps on the loose football and punched Denver’s ticket to the playoffs. ”The ball was on the ground and I was feeling like, ‘There’s no way somebody’s going to take this ball from me,”’ Ware said after his fumble recovery in overtime sealed Denver’s 20-17 victory over Cincinnati on Monday night. Russell Bodine’s catchable shotgun snap eluded AJ McCarron, who was making his second start in place of Andy Dalton.

Meadowlark Lemon, the ”clown prince” of basketball’s barnstorming Harlem Globetrotters, whose blend of hook shots and humor brought joy to millions of fans around the world, has died. Lemon’s wife and daughter confirmed to the team that he died Sunday in Scottsdale, Arizona, Globetrotters spokesman Brett Meister said Monday. Lemon ended up becoming arguably the team’s most popular player, a showman known as much for his confetti-in-the-water-bucket routine and slapstick comedy as his half-court hook shots and no-look, behind-the-back passes.

For the first time this season, there was no big comeback for Carolina. The perfect start is over for Cam Newton and the Panthers. After Julio Jones’ spectacular 70-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter gave Atlanta the lead, the Panthers came up empty in two possessions in the final three minutes as the Falcons held on for a 20-13 victory on Sunday.
