The One Thing Bill Maher Loves About Donald Trump

On “Real Time With Bill Maher” Friday night, Maher led a panel discussion about the Republican presidential candidates’ greatest weaknesses, inspired by the question that opened the GOP debate Wednesday.

While Maher has expressed clearly negative feelings about Trump in the past, he did reveal one thing he appreciates about the candidate.

“Trump [was] the only guy who was honest,” Maher said to his panelists. “He said, ‘I don’t forgive.’ I love Trump for that. He’s like, I don’t forgive. You fuck with me, I’m Vito Corleone, I will follow you back to Italy. I will find you in your old age and I will stick a knife in your stomach.'”

Back in September, Maher called out Trump’s ignorant comments about undocumented workers by channeling him in a segment jokingly telling Americans to rally against Australians “taking” our jobs.

“Australia is not sending us its best people,” he said. “They’re bringing drugs — yes, enough for everybody, but still — they’re rapists — OK, not rapists, but they do a lot of fucking — and I assume some are good people.”

Sigh. It’s not too surprising that Maher had trouble finding something about Trump to like.

Eddie Murphy Nails Bill Cosby Joke In Rare Stand-Up Set

Eddie Murphy delivered a rare stand-up set with the very thing he didn’t want to do a few months ago: a Bill Cosby joke.

Murphy received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center on Sunday night, where he took to the stage for his first stand-up performance in 28 years. Back in February, we learned via a tweet from former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Norm Macdonald that Murphy had declined to portray Cosby on the “SNL” 40th anniversary special, not wanting to “kick a man when he is down.”

But Murphy wasn’t holding back on Sunday. “Bill has one of these,” the Oscar-nominated comedian joked, referring to the Mark Twain bust that honorees receive. “Did you all make him give it back?” (Several universities have revoked Cosby’s honorary degrees in the wake of his numerous sexual abuse allegations.)

Murphy then morphed into Cosby’s sing-songy lilt, saying, “I would like to talk to some of the people who feel that I should give back some of my motherf**king trophies.” Continuing in his best “Pudding Pop” voice, a callback to his Cosby impression from his famous 1987 stand-up film ”Raw,” Murphy reportedly said, ”You may have heard recently that I allegedly put the pill in the people’s stomach … If I ever see or meet this Hannibal Buress in person, I am going to try and kill this man!”

Days earlier, Murphy had explained his decision not to do Cosby at the “SNL” anniversary tribute: ”There’s nothing funny about it,” he told The Washington Post. “If you get up there and you crack jokes about him, you’re just hurting people.” But Arsenio Hall, who was at Sunday’s celebration, told the Post that Murphy discussed the potential Mark Twain bit with him and Chris Rock, eventually changing his tune. “[Murphy] said, ‘Because Cosby gonna get sick of this soon, he’s gonna get sick of people hating, and eventually he’s gonna have to say something,’” Hall said of Murphy’s decision. “And we were like, ‘That is funny, man. Are you willing?’”

You can see a snippet of the set around the 2:25 mark in this video from The Associated Press. A full broadcast of the event airs Nov. 23 on PBS.

Eddie Murphy Explains Why He Wouldn’t Portray Bill Cosby On ‘SNL’ Special

Eddie Murphy says he chose not to reprise his famous impression of Bill Cosby on the “Saturday Night Live” 40th anniversary special because he didn’t want to joke about the embattled comedian’s sexual assault scandal.

“It’s horrible,” Murphy told The Washington Post in a lengthy interview published Tuesday. “There’s nothing funny about it. If you get up there and you crack jokes about him, you’re just hurting people. You’re hurting him. You’re hurting his accusers. I was like, ‘Hey, I’m coming back to SNL for the anniversary, I’m not turning my moment on the show into this other thing.'”

Cosby has been accused of sexually assaulting more than 50 women.

Murphy, a former “SNL” cast member, almost appeared in the sketch before changing his mind and deciding to simply give a brief speech instead. He told The Post he “totally understood” why “SNL” wanted to do the bit, which ended up starring current cast member Kenan Thompson as Cosby.

“It was the biggest thing in the news at the time,” Murphy said. “I can see why they thought it would be funny, and the sketch that Norm [Macdonald] wrote was hysterical.”

After the airing of the February special, Macdonald explained in a series of tweets that Murphy declined to play Cosby because “he will not kick a man when he is down.” In response, Cosby released a statement thanking Murphy for his decision.

“I am very appreciative of Eddie and I applaud his actions,” a Cosby spokesperson said.

Bill Maher Thinks GOP Should Listen To Pope Francis On Climate Change

Bill Maher praised Pope Francis’ views on climate change on “Real Time” Friday night.

While admitting to have “mixed feelings” about the pope, the host did appreciate his views on this particular topic, especially in contrast to those held by many Republican representatives in Congress.

“I think it’s just awesome that this pope took on this issue,” Maher said. “I love that Boehner invited him to talk to Congress, and there he was the Grandmaster Flash of crazy non-evidentiary nonsense, lecturing the Republicans on reality.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Maher discussed British Prime Minister David Cameron, Kim Davis and Josh Duggar.

Bill Maher Rips Today’s ‘Sharing Economy’ On ‘Real Time’

It’s probably safe to say you won’t see Bill Maher ride around in an Uber anytime soon. The comedian put the ride-finding app as well as others on blast on Friday, calling out America’s “sharing economy” on “Real Time.”

“Airbnb? You really think anybody really wants to have total strangers living in their apartment for a week? ‘Oh look, someone else’s pubes on my soap. I’m living the dream,'” Maher said.

One major problem with sharing apps is that some of them can put your personal information at risk, though Maher seemed more focused on the financial aspect. The comedian blames outrageous income inequality and greed for the rise in services he says are now replacing people with robots.

“The one thing we’re not sharing are the profits. Somehow they forgot to create an app for that,” he quipped.

“I am not throwing away my shot,” leading man Lin-Manuel Miranda sings again and again and again over the course of Hamilton, the new instant-megahit musical with music, lyrics and book by the same Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda doesn’t waste his shot, for sure, and scores an absolute bull’s-eye. Hamilton is not just an excellent and rousing musical; it brings something new to the musical theatre, and does it so very compellingly that superlatives are in order. I–and I expect just about all my critical colleagues–would tell you to stop reading right now and get yer tickets, except there aren’t likely many to be had for the next year or three.

Alexander Hamilton was heretofore best known as the fellow etched in green on the ten-dollar bill; one of two major Founding Fathers–the other being Benjamin Franklin–who didn’t get to become president; and the patriot who was killed by the then-sitting vice president of the United States, in a duel on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River. (To quote Miranda’s Hamilton: “Everything is legal in New Jersey.”)

The playwright fills in the blanks, showing us an orphan bastard immigrant from the West Indies who underwent Dickensian hardship; emigrated to the colonies just in time for the Revolutionary War; and became General Washington’s “right hand man.” He went on to help formulate the U. S. Constitution and–as President Washington’s Secretary of the Treasury–devise the financial structure of the new nation. Miranda–perhaps to avoid tarring his hero, by association–does not bother to tell us that Hamilton also founded the New York Post.

The magic of Hamilton comes from the manner of Miranda’s storytelling. While the action remains in the proper era (which is roughly 1776-1804), the street-talking characters are not so much founding fathers but founding brothers with up-to-the-minute attitude. (Hamilton from Nevis and the Marquis de Lafayette from France, leading the Continental Army at the decisive Battle of Yorktown, stop to jointly exclaim: “Immigrants! We get the job done!!”)

As one might expect from the author of In the Heights, the new show incorporates a considerable amount of street rhythm and rap. While this was the musical base of In the Heights, Miranda herein displays that he is a top-level musical theatre writer. He utilizes rap for a purpose; it turns out that rapid-paced streams of verbiage are the perfect way to cram tons of necessary exposition into the show, rather than making us sit through speech after speech and book scene after book scene. This is faster, funnier, and far more effective. The music ranges from tuneful to exquisite (as in, particularly, “Helpless” and “Satisfied” for the two leading ladies, and the lullaby “Dear Theodosia”), so no harm done. What’s more, Miranda demonstrates with numbers like King George’s “You’ll Be Back” and the explosively sinuous “Room Where It Happens” that he is an accomplished musical comedy writer, and no mistake.

Hamilton catapults Miranda to the head of the class. While breaking new ground in the melding of theatre and contemporary music, Miranda has also managed to focus the national political spotlight on Broadway, and that’s quite an accomplishment. He is abetted by excellent work from close collaborators Thomas Kail (director), Andy Blankenbuehler (choreography), Alex Lacamoire (orchestrations and musical direction) and designers David Korins, Paul Tazewell and Howell Binkley, all of whom make keen contributions to what is an instant classic.

Daveed Diggs as Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton. Photo: Joan Marcus

The supporting players are exceptional without exception. Anthony Ramos, Daveed Diggs and Okieriete Onaodowan–as Hamilton’s Revolutionary buddies in the first act, and as his beloved son and two enemies (and future presidents) in the second–offer perfect performances, as does Christopher Jackson as Washington. (Diggs, though, stands out among them, with a marvelous Jefferson.) Hamilton, and Miranda, could hardly find better women in his life than Phillipa Soo (Natasha of The Great Comet) and Renée Elise Goldsberry (of Broadway’s Good People and TV’s “Good Wife”); both offer a stunning display of dramatic singing.

Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening and “Glee”) is wonderfully droll as King George, who occasionally wanders on to offer malevolent discourse to his colonists (“when push comes to shove, I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love”). Groff, who played more than half of the Hamilton run at the Public Theater, is the only major replacement; patrons who saw the show during the first five weeks downtown had the added treat of seeing Brian d’Arcy James in the role until he left for the new musical at the St. James.

Sharing the spotlight with Miranda is Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr. Odom, who made a powerful Broadway debut in Leap of Faith and appeared on TV’s “Smash,” is Iago to Miranda’s Othello; the author has seen fit, even, to give his villain material as strong as what he has written for himself. Hamilton–the character–is the center of attention, but Odom’s Burr is the musical’s sparkplug. “Talk less, smile more,” he counsels the young Hamilton early on, “don’t let them know what you’re against or what you’re for.” Which is in some ways the model for the modern reactionary politician.

The luckiest person involved, it seems, is Ron Chernow, author of the 2004 biography “Alexander Hamilton.” The book was a best-seller, which was its own reward, but Miranda happened to pick up a copy and latch on to it. Chernow suddenly has a Broadway hit and a major bonanza that he couldn’t have reasonably expected. For that matter, Miranda’s new musical is likely to make Alexander Hamilton more famous–to the public at large–than Presidents Adams and Jefferson combined.

There’s talk in Washington of displacing A. Ham. from the $ 10 greenback; even so, the man seems to have a considerably wider smile this morning. As for Miranda, I don’t recall anyone writing music, lyrics & book and starring in a hit musical since George M. Cohan last gave his regards to Herald Square. Miranda’s demonstration of talent, skill and savvy earn him a well-deserved gold star, and a goldmine too.

Judge Orders Bill Cosby To Give Sworn Deposition In Lawsuit

LOS ANGELES, Aug 5 (Reuters) – U.S. comedian Bill Cosby has been ordered to give a sworn deposition in a lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a 15-year-old girl at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles in 1974.

The order, entered by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Tuesday and made public on Wednesday, states that Cosby will submit to questions under oath from the lawyer of his accuser, Judy Huth, on Oct. 9, and that she will answer questions from his attorneys on Oct. 15.

Cosby’s lawyers had sought to compel Huth to give her deposition before the comedian, but the judge sided with Huth in requiring Cosby to go first. (Reporting by Steve Gorman; Editing by Sandra Maler)

Bill Nye Reading Mean Tweets Is His Greatest Experiment Yet

Bill Nye taught us a lot about chemical reactions over the years, but none of that comes close to the Science Guy’s reactions to mean tweets

Nye recently read some unflattering tweets in support of a Kickstarter campaign for a documentary about him, which, to be honest, we kind of hope just turns out to be two more hours of tweets.

Mean tweets are a staple on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” but what happens when Nye’s science and reason meet the incoherent ramblings of the Internet? You get gold, people. Pure gold.

Bill Cosby Admitted To Drugging Women In 2005 Deposition

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bill Cosby admitted in 2005 that he got quaaludes with the intent of giving them to young women he wanted to have sex with, and that he gave the sedative to at least one woman and “other people,” according to documents obtained Monday by The Associated Press.

That woman and a second woman testified in the same case that they knowingly took quaaludes from him, according to the unsealed documents.

The AP had gone to court to compel the release of the documents from the deposition in a sexual abuse lawsuit filed by former Temple University employee Andrea Constand — the first of a cascade of sexual abuse lawsuits against him. Cosby’s lawyers had objected on the grounds that it would embarrass their client.

Cosby settled that lawsuit under confidential terms in 2006. His lawyers in the Philadelphia case did not immediately return phone calls Monday. Constand consented to be identified but did not want to comment, her lawyer said Monday.

Cosby, 77, has been accused by more than two dozen women of sexual misconduct, including allegations by many that he drugged and raped them in incidents dating back more than four decades. Cosby has never been criminally charged, and most of the accusations are barred by statutes of limitations.

Cosby, giving sworn testimony in the lawsuit accusing him of sexual assaulting Constand at his home in Pennsylvania in 2005, said he got seven quaalude prescriptions in the 1970s. The lawyer for Constand asked if he had kept the sedatives through the 1990s — after they were banned — but was frustrated by objections from Cosby’s lawyer.

“When you got the quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?” lawyer Dolores M. Troiani asked.

“Yes,” Cosby answered on Sept. 29, 2005.

“Did you ever give any of these young women the quaaludes without their knowledge?”

Cosby’s lawyer again objected, leading Troiani to petition the federal judge to force Cosby to cooperate.

Cosby later said he gave Constand three half-pills of Benadryl, although Troiani in the documents voices doubt that was the drug involved. The two other women who testified on Constand’s behalf said they had knowingly been given quaaludes.

Three of the women accusing Cosby of sexually assaulting them have a defamation lawsuit pending against him in Massachusetts. They allege that he defamed them when his agents said their accusations were untrue. Cosby is trying to get their case thrown out before discovery.

Cosby had fought the AP’s efforts to unseal the testimony, with his lawyer arguing the deposition could reveal details of Cosby’s marriage, sex life and prescription drug use.

“It would be terribly embarrassing for this material to come out,” lawyer George M. Gowen III argued in June. He said the public should not have access to what Cosby was forced to say as he answered questions under oath from the accuser’s lawyer nearly a decade ago.

“Frankly … it would embarrass him, (and) it would also prejudice him in eyes of the jury pool in Massachusetts,” Gowen said.

U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno asked last month why Cosby was fighting the release of his sworn testimony, given that the accusations in the Temple woman’s lawsuit were already in the public eye.

“Why would he be embarrassed by his own version of the facts?” Robreno said.

Cosby resigned in December from the board of trustees at Temple, where he was the popular face of the Philadelphia school in advertisements, fundraising campaigns and commencement speeches.

Bill Hudson Fires Back At Kids Oliver And Kate Hudson, Says They’re ‘Dead’ To Him

Bill Hudson, the estranged father of actors Oliver and Kate Hudson, is firing back after his son’s scathing Instagram post with a seething message of his own.

“I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own,” Hudson said in an interview with The Daily Mail.

“I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name,” he continued. “They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth.”

The comments come in response to an Instagram post by Oliver Hudson that went viral. The photo, reportedly taken more than 30 years ago, featured the actor and his sister as kids with Bill, and was posted with the caption, “Happy abandonment day… @katehudson.”

Happy abandonment day… @katehudson

Hudson also slammed his ex-wife Goldie Hawn, who he says “poisoned” the kids against him, and expressed dismay at his daughter Kate’s Father’s Day post, which was a picture of her with Kurt Russell, Hawn’s longtime partner. The caption on the post read, “Pa, just simply….. Thank you Happy Fathers Day I love you to the moon and back.”

“It was an intimate shot and, as her father, I found it inappropriate and unsettling,” Hudson said. “I’ll leave it at that.”

The Huffington Post has reached out to representatives for Bill, Kate and Oliver Hudson and will update this post if and when a comment is received.

Bill Maher Calls College Student A ‘Little Sh*t’ For Criticizing Jerry Seinfeld

Political talk show host Bill Maher called a college writer a “little shit” on his HBO show Friday night for questioning comedian Jerry Seinfeld’s claim that college audiences are too politically correct.

After San Diego State University student Anthony Berteaux, a campus editor-at-large with The Huffington Post, penned an open letter to Jerry Seinfeld telling him he was disheartened that the comedian thinks college audiences are too quick to call jokes racist, sexist or prejudiced, Maher told him to back off during a segment on “Real Time.”

“Now, I sure wouldn’t want to be judged by what I wrote at 20, but stupid though I was in 1976, I wouldn’t have presumed to lecture George Carlin on comedy,” Maher said, referring to the late, famed comedian. “Though I sure wish George was around today to write a letter back to this kid, as only he could. But since he can’t, allow me: Dear you little shit, I’m sure you’re busy with your new letter explaining astrophysics to Stephen Hawking and giving jump shot pointers to Steph Curry, but try to get a clue.”

In an interview with ESPN earlier this month, Seinfeld echoed sentiments expressed by comedians Chris Rock and Larry the Cable Guy about young people taking offense too easily.

“I don’t play colleges, but I hear a lot of people tell me, ‘Don’t go near colleges. They’re so PC,’” Seinfeld said. “[Young people] just want to use these words: ‘That’s racist;’ ‘That’s sexist;’ ‘That’s prejudice.’ … They don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.”

In Berteaux’s open letter, he challenged Seinfeld’s argument and cited Amy Schumer as a comedian whose jokes about sensitive subjects like rape successfully highlight injustices.

“It isn’t so much that college students are too politically correct (whatever your definition of that concept is), it’s that comedy in our progressive society today can no longer afford to be crass, or provocative for the sake of being offensive,” he wrote. “Sexist humor and racist humor can no longer exist in comedy because these concepts are based on archaic ideals that have perpetrated injustice against minorities in the past.”

Bill Nye Announces the 2015 Fun Fun Fun Fest Lineup and Explains the Axis of Fun

Nothing validates a claim quite like hard facts from a scientist, which is why Fun Fun Fun Fest, Austin’s popular cross-genre Indie music festival, hand-picked Bill Nye to announce the 2015 lineup and provide evidence that this fest is, in fact, the most fun in all the land.

Fun Fun Fun X from funfunfunfestival on Vimeo.

Although The Science Guy clearly has the chops to crunch the numbers and appears to be all up in pop culture these days, how exactly did he end up as an ambassador for this fest?

“About 2 years ago, I wanted to find a better way of showing folks that FFF was different than other festivals, because I really believe that it is. It’s not a very credible thought coming from me though,” explains co-founder James Moody. “So we decided to work with a scientist to basically prove, through science, that FFF was special… and scientifically different from everything else out there. Thankfully Bill Nye agreed, likes tacos, and loves Wu-Tang, so here we are. Because science.”

To slam-dunk the case, Nye employs all the tools in his arsenal such as a Wu-Tang Periodic table, a mind-blowing fun equation and “Quantitative Bummer Observation” metrics to explain his conclusion. With the comedy lineup yet to be announced, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him show up on the Yellow stage come November but I don’t have the science to prove it yet.

Check out the video for this year’s lineup and the full demonstration.

On ‘Inside Amy Schumer,’ Bill Nye Confirms The Universe Exists To Guide White Women In Their 20s

On Tuesday night’s “Inside Amy Schumer,” Bill Nye confirmed what we pretty much already knew — the universe only exists to send “cosmic guidance” to white women in their 20s.

Obviously.

Nye explained that while scientists once believed the universe was a “chaotic collection of matter,” recent breakthroughs have led them to understand it’s just basically a “giant dream board on which women pin their wishes.”

Because “if you just put it out into the universe, it will just manifest itself.” You know?

Model Janice Dickinson Sues Bill Cosby For Defamation Over Rape Claims

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Model Janice Dickinson has sued Bill Cosby for defamation over statements by his representatives that called her claims the comedian raped her in 1982 lies.

Dickinson’s lawsuit filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court seeks unspecified damages on defamation, false light and intentional infliction of emotional distress claims. The suit states Dickinson requested a retraction from Cosby about statements calling her allegations, made last year to “Entertainment Tonight,” a lie. An email sent to Cosby’s attorney Martin Singer was not immediately returned. Singer called Dickinson’s claims that Cosby raped her in a Lake Tahoe, California, hotel room in 1982 “false and outlandish” in a letter to The Associated Press last year.

Dickinson’s suit states the denials by Cosby’s camp have caused her embarrassment, humiliation and led to her being re-victimized.

Killer Mike Calls Bill O’Reilly ‘Full Of S***’ On ‘Real Time With Bill Maher’

Killer Mike appeared on “Real Time with Bill Maher” Friday night and was very candid about his opinion of Bill O’Reilly.

“I like Bill O’Reilly as a character,” the Run the Jewels rapper said, prompting the host to laugh. “I hate how white people take him so seriously,” Mike continued. “He’s more full of shit than an outhouse.”

The rapper stuck by his belief that O’Reilly puts up a “fictitious” facade. But Maher disagreed slightly, saying that the political commentator’s temperament was no act. O’Reilly “may be full of shit,” Maher said, “but it’s sincere shit.”

The two then discussed O’Reilly’s claim that rap music is responsible for the decline of religion in America. Mike’s response was pure laughter.

In Friday’s episode Maher also brought up America’s obsession with British accents and discussed the criticism of first lady Michelle Obama’s speech at Tuskegee University with panelists Killer Mike, John Waters, Heather McGhee and Charles Murray.

Bill Maher Calls Out Rand Paul For Pandering To Republican Base

Bill Maher wants to know what happened to Rand Paul.

On “Real Time With Bill Maher” Friday night, the host took Sen. Paul (R-Ky.) to task, claiming the presidential candidate has recently changed many of his libertarian beliefs.

“New rule: You can’t have any more Republican candidates for president until you tell me what you did with Rand Paul,” Maher said, “who was last seen standing in front of an aircraft carrier setting fire to everything he used to believe.”

By way of example, he said, “If you want to say, ‘I’m a new kind of Republican,’ don’t do what all the rest of them do and stand in front of the Yorktown … and then suggest adding $ 190 billion to the defense budget — the one you used to want to cut.”

Bill Kreutzmann, Grateful Dead Drummer, Joins Street Musician In San Francisco (And No One Noticed)

Tickets to the sold-out Grateful Dead concerts in Chicago this summer are fetching thousands of dollars online, but one member of the band played briefly for free in public on Sunday in front of a crowd of almost no one.

A video posted on Facebook shows Bill Kreutzmann, drummer and a member of the Dead since the band began in Palo Alto, California, in 1965, joining a street musician outside the Ferry Terminal Building in San Francisco.

The musician appears to be John F. King II, who’s known for drumming on garbage cans and other found objects. Kreutzmann posted the clip showing himself performing “undercover” in front of a decidedly smaller crowd than the ones he’ll face in Chicago.

In fact, it seems as if no one noticed at all:

Remember parking lot drum circles? I do. (And I’ll still join in, undercover… even after Sunday brunches in San Francisco.)

Posted by Bill Kreutzmann on Sunday, April 5, 2015

The video can also be seen here.

Kreutzmann has been busy of late. His tell-all book, “Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams, and Drugs with the Grateful Dead” will be released in May. And of course, in July he’ll take the stage in the Windy City with his old bandmates for what’s being billed as the Grateful Dead’s final concerts.

Bill Maher Slams Liberals For Slamming Liberals

“Don’t throw the synthetic baby out with the bathwater,” said Bill Maher on Friday.

During his “New Rules” segment on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the talk show host took some time to call out liberals for attacking other liberals. Maher ran through a number of topics, including Elton John’s boycott of Dolce and Gabbana over comments on gay adoption and in vitro fertilization, backlash The Economist got over a cover and a college president who was forced to apologize for sending out an email that said “all lives matter” instead of “Black lives matter.”

“What is the point of attacking people who are 95 percent on your side?” said Maher, later adding, “I see atheists and agnostics bitching at each other. Why is this even a thing? Do you believe in a talking snake? Me neither. We’re on the same team.”

Bill Maher Calls For Ban On Fraternities In ‘New Rules’

Bill Maher is calling for the end of fraternities.

The host closed out his “New Rules” segment on “Real Time with Bill Maher” Friday night with a plea to the president.

“New rule,” Maher said. “Before he leaves office, President Obama must send in the National Guard to desegregate American’s last bastion of societal-approved racism: college fraternities.”

Maher went on to compare fraternities to the Islamic State group because of the hazing techniques used by some in the Greek system.

“Since 1970, there’s been at least one hazing-related death every year as pledges routinely endure alcohol poisoning, sleep deprivation, waterboarding, being dressed in diapers, buried in trash, force-fed cat food,” he said. “Jesus, why not just pledge ISIS?”

Eddie Murphy Apparently Declined Offer To Play Bill Cosby On ‘SNL 40’

Eddie Murphy’s first appearance on “Saturday Night Live” in 30 years was awkward and stilted, but according to Norm Macdonald, it could have been a whole lot different. Over the course of several tweets posted on Wednesday, Macdonald explained that there was, at one point, the idea to include Murphy in the “SNL 40” version of “Celebrity Jeopardy” as Bill Cosby.

As Macdonald wrote, he was disappointed “Celebrity Jeopardy” had become about celebrity impressions for the “SNL 40” special. But writer Steve Higgins thought having Murphy mimic Cosby would help tie it all together. Wrote Macdonald:

Macdonald relayed a bunch of other anecdotes about the week, including that Bill Murray almost didn’t make the show because of a golf tournament, before finishing out the Murphy story:

Without Murphy’s involvement, the sketch wound up happening with Kenan Thompson in the role of Cosby.

Murphy and Cosby memorably crossed paths before. During the 1987 concert film “Raw,” Murphy recalled how Cosby chastised him about using foul language in his stand-up routine.

Bill Murray Played The Mayor On ‘Parks & Rec,’ Making Amy Poehler’s Dreams Come True

In the stretch toward its final episode, “Parks and Recreation” is pulling out all the stops. On Tuesday night, that meant a little old guest appearance by Bill Murray. Yes, BILL MURRAY was on “Parks and Recreation.”

The actor appeared as Walter Gunderson, the deceased mayor of Pawnee — a character widely referenced throughout the show’s history but never before depicted. The mayor spoke to his residents from the grave in a little video message, and had an open casket at his funeral.

Getting Murray to play the mayor of Pawnee has been a dream of Amy Poehler and the “Parks and Rec” cast and crew for years. Back in 2011, Poehler mentioned her wish to cast him in an interview at PayleyFest and during an appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” She brought it up it again in an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Sundance in 2013.

“I want Bill Murray to play the mayor,” she said “And I just dream about it every night. I whisper it to a bird and then I open the window and the bird flies away.”

Show creator Mike Schur told Entertainment Weekly that when they did finally manage to snag the actor, he was the perfect addition on set.

“He was just the most delightful person,” he said. “Not only was he incredibly complimentary of the show, he went around to every one of the actors and told them how great they were and cited specific episodes and moments. He hung out on the set for three hours, watching us shoot the show.”

The man, the myth, the legend.

Bill Maher Makes Yet Another Joke About Bill Cosby

Bill Maher made yet another joke referencing the recent sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby.

On Friday night’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the host mentioned Cosby during a segment about Sarah Palin. While discussing the Republican voices who criticized a recent Palin speech, Maher said, “Sean Hannity asked, ‘Did the teleprompter go down?’ The Washington Examiner questioned whether she should be included in future Republican events. And Bill Cosby said, ‘I wouldn’t drug her with your drink.'”

The host has made jokes about the allegations against Cosby on numerous occasions, including during his monologue for the Nov. 14 episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher.” While discussing Obama’s then-new initiatives, he said: “If you’re a Republican, you see Obama as Bill Cosby sexually assaulting the Constitution.”

Maher also joked about the comedian on the Nov. 21 episode of the show. “It was a bad week for Bill Cosby,” Maher said. “On the plus side, he has lots of pills lying around that can make him forget the whole thing.”

“Real Time with Bill Maher” airs Friday at 10:00 p.m. ET on HBO.

Bill Nye Says ‘Give A F**k’ About Climate Change Instead Of Deflategate

Bill Nye is weighing in on Deflategate again, but this time he has a few props and a message to share about something far more important.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick claimed atmospheric conditions and temperature changes could have caused footballs to lose air pressure during the team’s AFC Championship win over the Indianapolis Colts.

On Sunday, Nye said taking that much air out of a ball would require an inflation needle. But in a new video posted on Funny or Die, The Science Guy declared that “one test is worth 1,000 expert opinions,” and put some footballs into a fridge set to 51 degrees, or the temperature at the Jan. 18 game.

That’s where the video takes a very different turn.

“While we’re all obsessed with Deflategate, let’s keep in mind that there’s something about which you should give a fuck,” Nye said. “Yes, like Tom Brady, the world is getting hotter and hotter, and you know why? Because we humans are pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.”

Nye then began listing things that contribute to climate change — including long-winded Deflategate press conferences — and followed that up with a rallying cry.

“You should vote for congressmen and senators that appreciate the threat of climate change and the rate at which the world is getting warmer, so that we can preserve the earth for humankind for generations to come,” Nye said.

Oh, and about those balls…

Nye took one out of the fridge, gave it a squeeze, pronounced it “pretty much the same,” and said “the Patriots probably bent the rules a little bit.”

Nye, who lived in Seattle for a number of years, ended the video with a message that’s bound to rankle the New England faithful: “Go Seahawks!”

Bill Nye Says Belichick’s ‘Deflategate’ Explanation Doesn’t Make Any Sense

Count Bill Nye among those who aren’t buying the scientific explanations Bill Belichick is cooking.

“The Science Guy” told “Good Morning America” on Sunday that the New England Patriots coach’s recent explanation for why the team’s footballs were under-inflated during the AFC Championship Game “didnt make any sense.”

“I’m not too worried about coach Belichick competing with me,” Nye said, referring to the Internet dubbing Belichick “the science guy” after the coach’s complicated Saturday press conference. “What he said didn’t make any sense.”

Belichick said during the press conference that after carefully studying the issue, he had concluded that his team acted in accordance with NFL guidelines.

Belichick blamed the deflation of the team’s footballs on factors including “atmospheric conditions” and the team’s process of rubbing footballs before the game to wear them in, per the preference of the team’s quarterbacks.

But Nye, for one, wasn’t buying the idea that a little rubbing can deflate the football in any significant way.

“Rubbing the football — I don’t think you can change the pressure,” Nye said. “To really change the pressure, you need one of these, the inflation needle.”

pressure

Bill Nye told “Good Morning America” on Sunday that New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s “deflategate” explanation “didn’t make any sense.”

But there’s one thing you should know about Nye: It appears he’s a Seahawks fan. “I cannot help but say, ‘Go Seahawks!”’ he admitted to “GMA.”

ESPN reported last week that the NFL had found 11 of the Patriot’s 12 footballs were significantly under-inflated during the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts. None of the footballs provided by the Colts were under-inflated.

Bill Cosby Met With Protests At Denver Show

Protesters descended on a Denver theater hosting a pair of Bill Cosby comedy performances on Saturday night, chanting “Turn back Cosby,” “Rape is not a joke,” in response to the numerous accusations of sexual assault by the embattled comedian.

Approximately 100 protesters chanted and brandished signs outside Buell Theater, which was hosting two performances by Cosby on Saturday night, the Associated Press reported. “Don’t drink the water,” some chanted, referencing the claims that Cosby drugged his alleged victims’ drinks. A brass band joined people holding signs critical of Cosby. Attendees of the performances were waved down with metal detectors by security guards. Before the 8 p.m. MT showing, police officers took positions near protesters outside the theater. No arrests were reported.

Despite the hectic setting, hundreds of ticket-holders turned out for the performances. Cosby was met with a standing ovation and he thanked the audience, Reuters reported.

Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred, who has been representing some of the women accusing Cosby, held a press conference before the shows with a Denver woman who said that Cosby sexually assaulted her in 1986, KUSA reported. Beth Ferrier, who was in her 20s at the time of the alleged incident, claimed Cosby drugged her coffee when he was visiting Denver, causing her to lose consciousness. She said she woke up “practically naked” in the back of her car. Ferrier had accused Cosby of assault before, in 2005 alleging that they had an affair in 1984, the Associated Press reported. Allred also led demonstration to the theater before the show.

The 77-year-old entertainer had performed the previous night in Pueblo to little protest and before a packed audience.

Cosby has been accused of sexually assaulting dozens of women over a span of several decades. For years, allegations against Cosby went with little notice. But over the past year, more and more women have come forward accusing the entertainer of sexual misconduct.

The accusations against Cosby escalated in the past week, as model Chloe Goins filed criminal charges against the comedian, alleging he drugged and sexually abused her at the Playboy Mansion in 2008. Goins would be the first woman accusing Cosby of sexual assault whose case may fall within the statute of limitations, according to her attorney. Prior attempts to charge Cosby have been rejected, and Cosby has maintained his innocence.

Numerous Cosby performances have been cancelled or postponed as the controversy around him has grown.

Several of the shows that have not been cancelled have been interrupted by protests inside the venue and out, audience members at a Jan. 9 show in Canada shouting, “We believe the women!” Prior to his Colorado performances, Cosby issued a statement saying that the North American comedy tour would continue despite the backlash against him.

In addition to cancelled performances, institutions and media networks have cut ties with Cosby. On Friday, NBC announced that it would not work with him ever again.

Bill Maher Slams Islam Again In Wake Of Charlie Hebdo Attacks

On the Season 13 premiere of “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday night, the host continued to slam Islam following his comments earlier in the week on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Maher spoke out against “hundreds of millions” of Muslims on Wednesday night on “Kimmel” for supposedly supporting the Jan. 7 terrorist attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which resulted in the death of 12 people.

Maher revisited the topic on his own show on Friday in a discussion with bestselling author Salman Rushdie, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and CNN commentator Paul Begala. “We tend to forget how often it happens, and we’re Americans so we don’t want to single out people,” Maher said before listing terrorist attacks that have occurred across the globe since 9/11. “What we’ve said all along, and have been called bigots for it, is when there’s this many bad apples, there’s something wrong with the orchard.”

Maher then referenced the heated debate between Ben Affleck, author Sam Harris and himself back in October. During the discussion, Harris said that the religion is a “mother lode of bad ideas.” “But it is,” Maher agreed on Friday night. “And, unfortunately, the terrorists and the mainstream share a lot of these bad ideas.”

Bill Cosby Says He Won’t Answer To ‘Innuendos’

Before Bill Cosby took the stage at a sold-out theater in Melbourne, Florida on Friday night, he broke his silence on the recent sexual assault allegations.

While speaking with Florida Today, the 77-year-old comedian addressed the claims and revealed his reason for silence. “I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos,” Cosby told the publication. “People should fact check. People shouldn’t have to go through that and shouldn’t answer to innuendos.”

In addition to the Florida Today interview, Cosby’s lawyer, Marty Singer, released a statement to ABC News on Friday about his client:

“This situation is an unprecedented example of the media’s breakneck rush to run stories without any corroboration or adherence to traditional journalistic standards. Over and over again, we have refuted these new unsubstantiated stories with documentary evidence, only to have a new uncorroborated story crop up out of the woodwork. When will it end?”

Cosby has previously refused to answer questions regarding allegations that he sexually assaulted several women. In an interview with NPR’s Scott Simon broadcast on Nov. 15, Cosby shook his head and remained silent when asked to respond to the claims. Cosby also refused to respond to the AP’s Brett Zongker regarding the allegations, saying, “No, no, we don’t answer that.” He later requested, still on the record, that the AP interview be “scuttled.”

Netflix Postpones Launch Of Bill Cosby Comedy Special

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Netflix says it is postponing Bill Cosby’s upcoming standup comedy special.

A spokesperson for the company says it is postponing the launch of “Bill Cosby 77.” This follows accusations that Cosby has sexually assaulted several women.

Cosby has remained silent, and his attorney, John P. Schmitt, issued a statement Sunday saying his client would not dignify “decade-old, discredited” claims of sexual abuse with a response.

The 77-year-old Cosby was never criminally charged in any case.

Bill Maher Compares Obama To Bill Cosby And Al Pacino In ‘Scarface’

Getting compared to a ninja, “Scarface,” “The West Wing” and Bill Cosby in under five minutes is a rare thing few of us can say about ourselves. But now President Barack Obama can.

In his “Real Time” monologue on Friday, host Bill Maher focused on Obama’s recent initiatives, including his stance on net neutrality, his green climate deal and his executive action on immigration. Or, as Maher puts it, “Obama went all black ninja on the Republicans this week.”

Stifling laughter, Maher managed to compare the President’s sudden course of action to “Pacino at the end of Scarface,” a scene from “The West Wing,” and, if you’re a Republican, Bill Cosby’s recent controversy. “If you’re a Republican, you see Obama as Bill Cosby sexually assaulting the Constitution,” said Maher. As far as the carbon deal, Maher admits that it’s not perfect but says, hey, it’s better than the plot of “Interstellar” as an alternative.

“Real Time With Bill Maher” airs Fridays at 10:00 p.m. ET on HBO.

Bill Cosby’s ‘Late Show With David Letterman’ Appearance Canceled

According to Newsday, Bill Cosby’s Nov. 19 appearance on “The Late Show With David Letterman” has been canceled. No reason was given for the schedule change, but Regis Philbin will replace Cosby on the broadcast.

A representative for CBS declined to comment when contacted by The Huffington Post (the network does not publicly discuss its booking process). Cosby’s representatives did not return repeated requests for comment; this post will be updated if and when a response is received.

This marks Cosby’s second canceled booking in the last two weeks, as he dropped out of “The Queen Latifah Show” on Oct. 30. That move came a week after stand-up comedian Hannibal Buress called Cosby “a rapist” on stage in a bit that soon went viral. A spokesperson for “The Queen Latifah Show” told The Hollywood Reporter, “Mr. Cosby’s scheduled appearance on The Queen Latifah Show was postponed at his request and was in no way related to any of our recent or upcoming scheduled guests.”

This week, the Internet turned its attention back to Cosby after his team posted a meme generator on his website. The widget was taken down after users uploaded messages that highlighted allegations of rape and sexual abuse brought against the comedian over the last decade.

In addition, Barbara Bowman, one of the women who has alleged Cosby sexually assaulted her, wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post on Thursday recounting encounters with the now 77-year-old comic. She told HuffPost Live in a separate interview that her experiences with Cosby were “sexual encounters that were not consensual on any level.”

Cosby was never criminally charged in Bowman’s case or any other. In 2006, he settled a civil suit with one of the women.

Kevin Spacey ain’t afraid of no random impression.

On Friday, Jimmy Fallon got Kevin Spacey to play a special Halloween version of “Wheel of Impressions,” and it was awesome. Bill Murray Introduced An NFL Game In London Wearing A Bear Hat

Bill Murray is the type of guy who could engage in any weird, random act of absurdity and we’d hardly question it. Why? Because he’s Bill Murray.

The “St. Vincent” actor introduced the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons NFL game that took place on Sunday in London. He was wearing a bear hat, because why not. “If I were an Englishman and heard the Falcons were gonna fight the Lions in public, it would sound a little too cruel for me,” Murray says in the video. “I’d stay home and drink beer and tea like they do.”

Murray also announced another NFL game taking place in the U.S. between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Arizona Cardinals. Then the actor broke into a cardinal whistle and did a weird little dance. It’s bizarre, it’s hilarious and it’s definitely our second-favorite Murray commercial. (You know which one’s first.)

Tommy Davidson: People Care About Hannibal Buress’ Bill Cosby Takedown Because Of Race

Comedian Hannibal Buress’ scathing stand-up set lambasting “rapist” Bill Cosby made headlines last week, but “In Living Color” alum Tommy Davidson thinks there’s a racial element to all the attention.

In a HuffPost Live interview on Friday, Davidson weighed in on Buress’ set, during which he brought up the multiple allegations of sexual abuse that have marred Cosby’s reputation.

“It seems like the media only picks up on African Americans when they have these public beefs,” he told host Marc Lamont Hill. “You never see, like, Woody Allen saying something about Mel Brooks. And even if they did, there’s never a headline.”

When it came to the motivation behind Buress’ bit, Davidson said the move was “not really” a publicity stunt, but he remained cynical.

“It works for [Buress] though. … This weekend everybody knows who he is,” he said.

Nick Kroll Tells His Embarassing Bill Murray Encounter

Sometimes meeting your idol isn’t as amazing as you’d hope it would be. Nick Kroll stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Friday and told Jimmy Fallon the story of his cringeworthy encounter with the legendary Bill Murray.

Kroll said that one night when he was set to perform at an open mic event, he got word that Bill Murray was in the building. Kroll, being a huge fan of the “Caddyshack” actor, approached Murray and asked him if he would watch his stand-up routine. When Murray agreed, Kroll couldn’t be more excited … until, that is, he totally bombed on stage, with Murray watching.

“I bombed harder than Kanye West at a Ray J CD release party,” Kroll said.

Bill O’Reilly Is Just So Mad At Stephen Colbert These Days

Despite just about everyone telling him that his plan to defeat ISIS using a vast mercenary army is really, really terrible, Bill O’Reilly is not backing down. (Surprised?)

On Monday, O’Reilly lashed out at frequent foe Stephen Colbert, who had devoted a segment to ridiculing his scheme.

Colbert, O’Reilly groused, was a “dumb” person with “no bleeping clue” (he actually said “bleeping”) about what to do in the Middle East — unlike O’Reilly, whose plan has the support of 70 percent of respondents in a poll on www.billoreilly.com.

Bill Maher Blasts Fear-Mongering Over ISIS: ‘United States Of Pants-Shitters’ Should Be More Afraid Of Monsanto

Bill Maher took on America’s latest march to war during the final minutes of “Real Time” on Friday, arguing that the fear of ISIS has been blown out of proportion. “They’re selling terror and boy are we buying,” he jabbed.

After calling out conservative war hawks like Lindsey Graham, “the Senate’s own Blanche DuBois,” Maher made a provocative point about why the disturbing videos of journalists being beheaded by ISIS don’t justify the fear most Americans are feeling. Saying he admires the courage of the journalists who were killed, he noted, “When you choose to live among cut throats, you might get your throat cut. Do Americans living here really think they’re going to be next?”

Maher then went on to argue that a more direct threat to the lives of Americans is Monsanto, another group with a name that’s “simultaneously cool-sounding and stands for pure evil.”

Bill Murray Reveals The Women He’d Choose For ‘Ghostbusters 3’

Bill Murray won’t be appearing in the upcoming “Ghostbusters III,” which is likely to feature a female-centric plot. Instead, he has offered up his top picks for the job.

In a recent interview with The Toronto Star, Murray suggested Melissa McCarthy, his co-star in the upcoming film “St. Vincent,” would be a good fit for a role in the next “Ghostbusters” flick. He also mentioned a few more of our favorite comediennes.

“Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny!” he told the Star during the Toronto Film Festival this weekend. “I like this girl Linda Cardellini (“Mad Men”) a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”

Murray may actually be on to something with his funny female picks. Paul Feig, the director of “Bridesmaids,” which starred both Wiig and McCarthy, is currently in negotiations to helm the next chapter of the “Ghostbusters” saga, according to reports.

Speaking to HuffPost Live host Ricky Camilleri on Sept. 5, Reitman said he’s fairly certain Feig will get the job.

“I know that the studio is negotiating with Paul, and I think it’s probably going to work out,” said Camilleri. “There were always going to be women involved in the next iteration of ‘Ghostbusters.’ Paul seems to be the perfect director to sort of bring that about.”

In addition to Murray’s lineup, here are our nominees for female “Ghostbuster” leads (in no particular order):

  1. Tina Fey
  2. Amy Poehler
  3. Emily Blunt
  4. Jenny Slate
  5. Rebel Wilson
  6. Maya Rudolph

Maya Angelou Memorial Service Attended By Oprah, Bill Clinton, Michelle Obama And More

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Maya Angelou liked to say that people will forget what you said or did in your life, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Former President Bill Clinton, first lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey said Saturday they were among the millions touched by Angelou’s wisdom when they needed help to rise.

Family and friends, both famous and anonymous, gathered Saturday to remember one of the 20th century’s most famous black writers. Amid tears, laughter, and gospel singing, they met at Wake Forest University, where she taught for 32 years though she never graduated from college. Dr. Angelou, as she liked to be addressed out of respect for all the honorary degrees she received, died May 28 at age 86. Hers was a remarkable life, linking worlds of civil rights, poetry, acting and teaching — those present recalled at the 2-hour-long tribute.

“We could just all be up here talking about how Maya Angelou represented a big piece of American history. And triumphed over adversity. And proved how dumb racism is,” Clinton said at the private memorial service. “But her great gift in her action-packed life was she was always paying attention. And from the time she starting writing her books and her poetry, what she was basically doing was calling our attention to the things she’d been paying attention to. And she did it with a clarity and power that will wash over people as long as there is a written and spoken language.”

The words of the indomitable woman, who Clinton said seemed to pack five lifetimes into one, changed a little black girl on the south side of Chicago whose Malibu Barbie doll was the standard of female perfection.

“Her voice lifted me right out of my own little head,” Obama told those gathered in the wooden pews of the main campus chapel. A large photo of her husband awarding Angelou the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011 hung from the campus chapel’s oak wall.

The first lady added, “She told us that our worth has nothing to do with what the world might say. Instead, she said, each of us comes from the Creator trailing wisps of glory. She reminded us that we must each find our own voice, decide our own value, and then announce it to the world with all the pride and joy that is our birthright as members of the human race.”

Tall and majestic, Angelou added heft to her spoken words with a deep and sonorous voice. She once described herself as a poet in love with “the music of language.” She recited the most popular presidential inaugural poem in history, “On the Pulse of Morning,” when Clinton opened his first term in 1993.

Clinton remembered that voice, and how Angelou chose not to speak for five years after she was raped by her mother’s boyfriend as a child.

“She was without a voice for five years and then she developed the greatest voice on the planet. God loaned her His voice,” Clinton said. “She had the voice of God. And he decided he wanted it back.”

Winfrey said the close and constant friend she met before becoming a talk show host could shake her out of bouts of self-doubt. Angelou taught her to look beyond trouble and spot the rainbow in the clouds, Winfrey said.

“Maya Angelou is the greatest woman I have ever known,” Winfrey said, then almost sobbing: “She was my anchor. So it’s hard to describe to you what it means when your anchor shifts.”

Winfrey and Obama, seated next to each other in the chapel’s front row, swayed in unison as Grammy-winning gospel singer Bobby Jones prompted hands to wave and clap. Actor and producer Tyler Perry assisted actress Cicely Tyson and former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young to the podium before country singer Lee Ann Womack drew cheers with her hit “I Hope You Dance.”

Angelou was born Marguerite Johnson in St. Louis and raised in Stamps, Arkansas, and San Francisco. Her life included writing poetry by age 9, giving birth as a single mother by 17, and becoming San Francisco’s first black streetcar conductor. She also danced at a strip joint, sang on records, acted alongside James Earl Jones and earned a Tony nomination for her work on Broadway. She wrote music and plays, received an Emmy nomination for her acting in the 1970s TV miniseries “Roots” and danced with Alvin Ailey.

Angelou also worked as a coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and lived for years in Egypt and Ghana, where she met South African liberation pioneer Nelson Mandela. In 1968, she was helping the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. organize the Poor People’s March in Memphis, Tennessee, where the civil rights leader was slain on Angelou’s 40th birthday.

Her son, Guy Johnson, said Angelou’s last decade was filled with pain — the toll of her career as a professional dancer and respiratory failure. She was bound to a wheelchair and oxygen tanks. Still, she was able to write four more books, had all of her mental faculties, and died quietly in her sleep.

“There is no mourning here,” he said.

Bill Cosby Carries Jimmy Fallon On A Tightrope Walk Across ‘Tonight Show’ Set

Who knew Bill Cosby was this strong?

With Jimmy Fallon taking a look at extreme sports last night, he asked The Cos to walk a tightrope across the studio. The “rope” was nothing more than a piece of tape on the floor — but as you’ll see in the video, Fallon wasn’t about to make it that easy on Cosby.

As the 76-year-old comic legend teetered down the “rope,” Fallon hopped up on his back and covered Cosby’s eyes for the piggyback ride of his life. Somehow, he wasn’t injured.

Cosby came out okay too.

Bill Murray Is Cordially Invited To Washington, D.C., For A Groundhog Day Party

How hard could it be to get Bill Murray to show up to at an annual Groundhog Day celebration in the nation’s capital? Aaron DeNu says that, even with short notice, “I think we have a chance.”

DeNu launched D.C.’s now-annual tribute to the soothsaying animal two years ago. He’s hoping this year’s event will entice Murray, who starred in the classic, and profound, “Groundhog Day,” to attend.

“I think one in 100,” he tells HuffPost, putting the odds that high because Murray is out promoting a new film — “The Monuments Men” — for which he’s been undertaking some unorthodox publicity stunts, and because an exhibition relating to the movie will be opening at the Smithsonian on Feb. 7, a mere five days after the big day itself.

DeNu has convinced a handful of local businesses to donate goods and services which would make Murray’s visit more appealing: a quirky boutique hotel has offered to put him up and a bookstore/restaurant frequented by the president has offered to feed him.

In 2011 when DeNu launched the event, he originally had a more feral star in mind: a live groundhog, which he planned to call Potomac Phil. DeNu thought he’d tell people that Potomac Phil is a brother of Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil; that the two are both genetically blessed weather-rodents.

That plan eventually petered out. DeNu contacted various groups he thought might have a spare to lend out, and learned that groundhogs may be common, but this time of year they are also mostly hibernating. A stuffed groundhog, purchased from a D.C. vintage store — yet also said to be able to see its shadow, and thus to adjudge the sort of winter Washington will enjoy — has stood in a live animal’s place.

Regarding this endeavor, while DeNu doesn’t mark his chances of luring Murray as especially promising, “I’m going to keep at it,” he says. “As Bill Murray’s best friend said, ‘Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!‘”

The attempts, thus far, have mainly entailed looking for the 1-800 number on which Murray is said to check messages. GQ reported in 2010 that the actor will return calls for propositions he finds “interesting.”

Easy enough, except this time the problem is that DeNu doesn’t know, specifically, what 1-800 number to call.

“So, I’ve been on a quest to find that number,” he says. “Along the way, I’ve left some awkward messages on different 1-800 numbers that I believed to be his. I spoke into the AT&T toll free line for 30 minutes searching different names. Using search criteria such as names of characters Bill Murray has portrayed in film. And I’ve reached out to an accountant in New York that is rumored to be in contact with him. I try every day, but it seems like I’m having the same day over and over again.”

Still, it could be so easy for Murray to help DeNu make things right. “Bill can email me at DupontFestival@gmail.com,” he says, “and if he can be in Dupont Circle Park on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 a.m. it would be beautiful.”

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Results: Bill Engvall Eliminated In Part 1 Of The Finals

After far too many weeks, according to “Dancing With the Stars” enthusiasts, Bill Engvall finally danced his last dance. The comedian outlasted many celebrities who outscored him on the dance floor week after week, making it into the first part of the two-night season finale. He fell just short of the finish line, though.

Once again, Engvall had the lowest scores on the night with 51, but this time they would prove his undoing. Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke scored 57, so they’re going to have to step it up. The other competitors on Tuesday night’s special episode are Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff, and Amber Riley and Derek Hough.

Engvall was gracious in his departure, saying, “It just goes to prove to me, there is a God! Because I don’t think I could make one more dance.” He had nothing but praise for his partner Emma Slater, saying she’s like a second daughter to him.

E! Online’s Leanne Aguilera thinks America got it right. “Wiggling and disco dancing around the floor is not the same as ballroom dancing,” she wrote. But HitFix’s Liane Bonin Starr agreed. “I can’t be too sad about this, only because many more talented dancers were sent home while Bill was flopping and stomping around each week. He was great fun, such a joy, but it’s time to get serious.”

Catch the “Dancing with the Stars” finale on a special night, Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz On Bill Maher’s Obamacare Lie Claim: ‘Let Me Knock That Down Right Away’

Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) denounced the notion that President Barack Obama had lied about Americans’ ability to maintain their health insurance under Obamacare.

In a Friday appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Wasserman Schultz batted down Maher’s suggestion that “the ship has sailed” on Obama’s “credibility.”

“It was not a lie, let’s just be very clear,” Wasserman Schultz said. “So let me knock that down right away. When the president and myself and every other Democrat that talked about that if you like your health care, you can keep it, that was referring to the overwhelming majority of Americans who had health care.”

During his Wednesday speech in Boston, Obama attempted to clarify the controversy surrounding a wave of cancellation notices received by employees of small businesses and individuals purchasing their own plans. The president argued that “you’re going to get a better deal.”

“If you’re getting one of these letters, just shop around in the new market place,” he said. “That’s what it’s for.”

Maher worked off that point, questioning whether the issue for Americans was one of truth over quality of the plans. Wasserman Schultz responded that the lie debate was “arguing over minutiae” — a point that Maher fired back at in disagreement.

“To a lot of Americans, it’s not minutiae and I think they’re insulted when you say that because they think it’s something important when the president doesn’t square up with them,” Maher said.
