Erin Andrews’ DWTS Blog: ‘I Felt Like Christie Brinkley from National Lampoon’s Vacation’

While the majority of Hollywood’s elite dazzled and glowed (literally!) on the Met Gala red carpet, Erin Andrews and the rest of the Dancing With the Stars team had a show to put on! And according to the host, things got sleek, chic and a little sexy on Tuesday evening’s episode. Get all of the details on the host’s look, including her curve-skimming gown, dramatic hair and makeup and more!

For the taping, Andrews and her stylist Alyssa Greene selected a slinky, long-sleeve red Elie Saab gown, which she teamed with gold-accented accessories, including Manolo Blahnik heels and Royal and Sylvie Collection jewels.

“The past few episodes we went really girly and over the top, so for this look, we wanted to go back to sleek, sexy and fierce,” Greene told PeopleStyle. “It looks super simple from the front, but when she turns around, you see the asymmetric back detail with gold buttons. We added a bit of gold bling and a super simple Manolo sandal to complete the look.”

And while Andrews calls the sexy siren gown a “little dangerous,” she says the sleek design made her feel like a supermodel. “The slit was high and a little dangerous, the host confessed. “I had to watch it walking up those ballroom stairs. Again channeling the Met Ball, I was thinking, ‘What would Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] do?’ She was rocking a slit beautifully [last night], too!”

As for the host’s makeup, makeup artist Lisa Ashley was all about creating a “dramatic yet simple” look for the evening, opting for a bold eye and statement lip moment. To get Andrews’ smoky eye, the makeup pro began by accenting the star’s eyes with matte cranberry and apricot eye shadow shades (by Viseart) to match the rich shade of her dress and blended them into a smoky state. (As Ashley points out, “smoky doesn’t necessarily have to be blacks and grays — it’s the technique and blending rather than the colors used.”)

After contouring with the Laura Mercier Flawless Contour Palette, Ashley selected a matching cranberry hue for the star’s lips, which is actually the byproduct of many different shades. “Creating the perfect lip is never simple, she confessed. “I can sometimes use up to five different products.” But for this look, the makeup pro mixed together L.A. Girl Semi-Permanent Auto Lip Liner in Dark Plum with KIKO Precision Lip Liner #305 and added sheen with Girlactik Pout Shine in Stunning.

As for Andrews’ hair, she and her stylist Ryan Randall were up for trying something new. “I’ve always wanted to try slicking my hair back for the show,” she told PeopleStyle. “[Last night] we thought this was the right dress to do it with.”

“Week after week, Erin has trusted us to deliver looks out of her comfort zone, and tonight’s look is no exception,” Randall told PeopleStyle. “We took an editorial approach with this wet, sleek and chic style. Red carpet worthy most definitely, with a nod to the Met Ball happening tonight in N.Y.C.”

The hair pro prepped Andrews’ wet hair with Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer and blew it out, straight and off the face. To get the slick style, Randall re-wet the roots with the same primer spray and added a layer of Moco De Gorila gel for “an ultimate, set it and forget it” slicked-back style. He added slight texture to the back of the do with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray as a finishing touch.

As for the final look? Andrews loved it — and even made a reference to a favorite supermodel vet. “I was joking around and said I felt like Christie Brinkley when she was filming the pool scene in National Lampoon’s Vacation, ‘So you gonna go for it?’”

But in between shooting, Andrews said she was keeping tabs on the fashion happening on the East Coast (and playing with puppies!). “Backstage during the show we were looking at all the Met Ball photos, and we were laughing about how this was our West Coast version of it.”

The Teenage Diary — The Original Blog

There are so many reasons I feel lucky to have grown up in the low-tech generation that was the late ’70s/early ’80s.

I love the fact that my music came from vinyl and cassette tapes and that the only thing I was able to do on my telephone was talk on it.

And blogging was done the old-fashioned way, handwritten in one of these relics:

2015-05-18-1431972749-17570-Diaries80s.JPG

I was a little fanatical about writing in my diary. I got my first (and still my favorite) Hello Kitty Friendly Diary when I was 7, and I talked to it like it was a person. A friend. A confidant.

But it’s the books from my pre-teen/teenage years that tell the best (and worst) stories — love, lust, passion, fashion, music… it’s all there in these volumes.

The books are like little time capsules; open them up and find much more than you ever could from staring at a computer screen. Feel the pages and feel the love (and angst) of childhood.

Here are five reasons I am so grateful that I never pitched these precious books.

1. Handwriting
Childhood scrawl and my big, bubbly handwriting take me screaming back to high school.

2. The Occasional Collage
Jason should feel pretty special that I’ve hung onto this homage to him since 1987.

3. Mementos
Matchbooks, ticket stubs, napkins, notes and photos are all stuffed within these pages.

4. Song Lyrics
I painstakingly wrote out the lyrics to a Richard Marx song — what is more dramatic than that? NOTHING.

5. What I Wore
The outfits! Day after day of all the the outfits!

These are the books of my life. From the mundane, like “today in class we had a “subatoot,” to the major “today we are moving, they are coming to take everything away and I don’t want to be here and Brian asked me to marry him.”

I did not marry Brian.

We were 17 years old.

In retrospect, it was all very sweet.

It’s all there in these pages. If there was a fire, yes, I would grab these.

As I get older, I want to continue to turn the pages, to touch the napkin from my prom night and get all nostalgic.

I want to show the R.E.M. ticket stub to my children and tell them how it was one of the best shows I ever saw and show them the entry where Mom took me out to brunch so we could talk because she knew I was struggling in school and in life. I want to smile, wince, laugh and cry as I remember who I was.

Lori’s website, Drawn to the ’80s, is where her 5-year-old draws the music hits of the 1980’s. Her blog, Once Upon a Product, is where she writes about food, the ’80s, beauty products and her Mick Jagger obsession.

Jay Mohr Apologizes On His Blog For Fat-Shaming Alyssa Milano

In a now-famous tweet she sent out on Christmas Day, Alyssa Milano took comedian Jay Mohr to task for making offensive comments about her body — and finally, he’s apologized.

On Thursday, he admitted that what he said was just a big fail, in a tweet to Perez Hilton and Milano (though still speaking about the actress in the third person).

The “joke” Mohr was referencing was something he said on his podcast after hosting the Dec. 6 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Awards in Las Vegas where Milano was a presenter. “It seems like she had a baby and said, ‘I don’t really give a s**t’ … I read it on her gut… Somebody sat in the director’s chair and was not wearing Spanx and I was like, ‘Jesus Christ,'” he said, in part.

Milano’s comeback was pitch-perfect and completely classy.

There was no immediate response from Mohr. Milano’s fans (aka, anyone who grew up in the 80s), however, applauded her. As one commenter, on the HuffPost Parents Facebook page, wrote: ” Funny I know exactly who Alyssa Milano is but had to google Jay Mohr…I know him as the guy who fired Jerry maguire….check yourself Jay Mohr we all grew up with Alyssa Milano. [sic]” Jezebel, being Jezebel, called him a “residually famous person,” and pointed out that his wife, Nikki Cox, “is probably super-embarrassed right now.”

And that brings us up-to-date — 18 days after Mohr and Milano attended the event together, nine days after Milano took the high road and more than a full day after the comedian said, effectively, Wait, it was just a joke! — to Friday, when Mohr posted an actual apology on his blog.

“Comedians have a hole on their insides that can only be filled by generating constant content that is, many times, improvised in the moment. Unfortunately, in rare instances, it causes irreparable harm,” it begins.

I know full well how much words can hurt people, having seen my wife get destroyed by the tabloids, and I am embarrassed that I didn’t think before I spoke. Alyssa is an extraordinarily beautiful person—both inside and out. Alyssa is a mother, a wife, an actress, and a class act that should always be celebrated. Sometimes comedians go too far. I went too far. I cannot change what I said, but I can assure you that my heart is broken that I hurt her. I am very sorry. With the utmost sincerity, Jay Mohr

Read the full statement here on Mohr’s website. We’re certainly glad he came around. However, one thing is clear: Alyssa Milano showed Jay Mohr who’s the boss.
