Celebrity Tequila Brands and the Spirit’s Versatility Make a Compelling Combination

Tequila rocks at Hollywood events. Some prefer it neat. Nightlife entrepreneur Rande Gerber recommends his (with George Clooney) Casamigos brand on the rocks. Icy tequila can be refreshing and cinematic: the frozen margarita got its due in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s” brazen finale. Although there is a surplus of Piper-Heidsieck champagne for toasting, […]

Brooklyn Cloth
Founded in 2011, Brooklyn Cloth is the trend-driven apparel line under Icer Brands, the New York City-based parent company of labels such as Bklyn Athletics, The Narrows, Wayside, NBA licensed partner brand Unk, NFL by Icer Brands, and even Apple Bottoms, the denim line cofounded by rapper Nelly.
Brooklyn Cloth was born from the minds of Icer Brands’ owner Norman Jemal and Daron Jacob, head of creative, who witnessed the movement of trends in women’s wear and saw an opportunity to speak to those trends in men’s wear as well as through elevated fabrication, textiles and patterns.
“All of our fabrics have been elevated and have dimension to them. Today, the fabrics we make and use start from the yarn level,” said Jacob. “I’ve always loved the challenge of making things truly marketable that can touch many people, and cross over demographics, price points and distribution channels. Our lives are constantly evolving and we thought our brand will continue to evolve, as well.”

From Cropped Hoodies to Cardboard Clothes: Brands to Check Out at Paris Men’s Week

ROCHAS HOMME
Speaking on the phone from his studio in Florence, Federico Curradi confessed to being a bit nervous. “This is both our first time on the official Paris Fashion Week calendar and our first fashion show,” said the designer, who had previously opted for the presentation format to unveil the two collections he designed since being appointed creative director of Rochas Homme in June 2018.
For his fall 2020 collection, which will be shown on Jan. 16, Curradi took inspiration from a real-life source: A personal friend of his, an artist who lives just around the corner from him in Florence. “He does ceramics, he’s very bohemian and also a bit trippy — he mostly works at night,” said Curradi.
This artist was the starting point of the collection, an array of “really beautiful pieces and materials” that a group of young artists mix and match haphazardly, simply following their instinct. “The looks will feature handmade little touches and will be slightly imperfect as if to say — I don’t care what I look like, I’m an artist and can wear what I want,” explained Curradi.
Thick jackets and mohair suits reminiscent of old-school Milanese bourgeoise style and British “supermasculine” tailoring fabrics are

Milan Day One: More Brands Say Bye to Coed Shows, Tout Return of Suit

MILAN — After a few ho-hum seasons in Milan, mainly dented by a rush of coed shows scheduled during the women’s collections, the pendulum is swinging back to a fuller and more international Men’s Fashion Week. Gucci has given the city a welcome boost, returning with a show scheduled on the last day, Jan. 14, after several seasons of coed shows.
“At the start of this new decade and this next chapter for Gucci, we are excited to return to Milan Men’s Fashion Week, joining the other leading brands present to underline Milan’s prestige and influence on the world stage,” Marco Bizzarri, president and chief executive officer of Gucci, told WWD. “Milan Fashion Week is a pivotal event in the fashion world’s calendar as it also represents the fundamental role that Italy plays in the luxury sector, both in terms of creativity and manufacturing. The men’s category is now more vibrant than ever before as men have become more confident in expressing themselves through fashion. Alessandro [Michele] has played a significant part in this evolution through his vision and collections over the last five years and will undoubtedly continue to do so in 2020 and beyond.”

The Reemergence of Brands Made in L.A.

With a renewed focus on sustainability, local manufacturing is becoming a priority for fashion once again, and Los Angeles looks to be at the center of the boom.
Dozens of brands have cropped up in the state over just the last two years, nearly all of them proudly exclaiming “Made in L.A.” Although generally lacking the fashion forward ethos of brands coming out of the European fashion capitals like France and Milan and the still emerging Copenhagen, a new L.A.-based and made label seems to launch every month.
Brands like Cherry, Rezek Studio, Calle Del Mar, Pretties, Gil Rodriguez, Lykke Wulf, Feel Denim and Roxana Salehoun (only the last two being denim and swim, respectively) have launched since 2017. They’re coming off the popularity by varied L.A.-made brands Reformation, The Elder Statesman, Eve Denim, Cotton Citizen and Clare V., among a few others. All of these brands helped shift decades of perception that L.A. was home to mass produced T-shirts, denim and the odd boutique swimwear line.
There is still denim and swim coming out of L.A., but many new brands offer a casual sportswear type of look and often vintage-inspired styles. And lines are pushing where they’re made as a real selling

All the Kardashian-Jenner-West Fashion and Beauty Brands in the Works

Given the sheer number — and popularity — of the Kardashian-Jenner-West family’s fashion and beauty brands, they’ve proven they are a force to be reckoned with outside the entertainment arena, building businesses that compete with the biggest brands in the market. And they’re only just getting started.
In 2019, the reality TV clan marked significant milestones for their respective businesses — most notably Kylie Jenner selling a majority stake of her Kylie Cosmetics brand to Coty Inc. for $ 600 million — and they also laid down the groundwork to continue expanding their empires by filing a number of new fashion and beauty trademarks.
From Kendall Jenner’s first beauty venture to the youngest of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s children getting in on the family business, here are all the Kardashian-Jenner-West fashion and beauty brands in the works.

Zac Posen Trademark Reportedly Sold to Centric Brands

Centric Brands has reportedly acquired the Zac Posen trademark at auction, WWD has learned.
As reported, Posen, 39, who is known for his show-stopping red carpet gowns, revealed he was closing his business in late October after failing to find a buyer or new investors.
Posen is reportedly working out details regarding his involvement in the new business arrangement that encompasses the Zac Posen brand and all intellectual property, market sources said.
Centric Brands, which is headed by chief executive officer Jason Rabin, was formed last year from Differential Brands Group, which acquired a significant portion of the North American licensing business from Global Brands Group Holdings. The combined business was renamed Centric Brands.
Today, Centric Brands manufactures and markets brands in the women’s, men’s, kids apparel, accessories, beauty and entertainment categories. In apparel, its portfolio includes labels such as Herve Leger, Hudson Jeans, BCBG MaxAzria, Buffalo Jeans, Joe’s Jeans and Robert Graham. Its accessories labels run the gamut from Kate Spade and Michael Kors to Frye, Kenneth Cole and Jessica Simpson. Centric already holds the license for Posen’s handbags and cold weather accessories. Centric, which is listed on the NASDAQ exchange, sells products primarily in North America through specialty and department stores, mass

Joseph Abboud Label Put Up for Sale by Tailored Brands

Joseph Abboud is on the block.
Tailored Brands, which acquired the designer label in 2013 for $ 97.3 million, is said to be shopping it around to brand marketing firms as a way to get some quick cash to pay down debt. But the game plan will be to find a firm that will agree to license the label back to the company for use in its Men’s Wearhouse stores.
Tailored Brands is reportedly hoping to finalize a deal early next year.
Dinesh Lathi, chief executive officer of Tailored Brands, did not immediately comment on the report.
Tailored Brands is bringing the Abboud label in front of the usual suspects, with WHP Global, a new brand management company that just purchased Anne Klein, and Sequential Brands among those most interested, sources said. Marquee Brands, which owns Ben Sherman and Bruno Magli and is close to finalizing a deal for Destination Maternity, is also taking a close look, as is Bluestar Alliance, which owns Tahari and Bebe, they added.
The once-high-flying Tailored Brands has been struggling over the past several years as it attempts to navigate the more casual workplace and digest the acquisition of the Jos. A. Bank business, which it acquired for $ 1.8 billion in

Brands Want Shine and Flexibility, Say Exhibitors at Blossom Première Vision

PARIS — It was a quiet scene at Blossom Première Vision, the trade show targeting the pre-collections market held on Dec. 11 and 12 at the Carreau du Temple in Paris.
“Things aren’t usually so calm,” said Laurent Bové, sales manager of leather manufacturer Cuirs du Futur, gesturing to the nearly empty alleys of the textile trade show. “The French railway strikes have really affected business today.”
Traffic at the eighth edition of the show dipped from 1,100 visitors at the December 2018 edition to a mere 827, according to the organizers, who cited the countrywide railway strike, resulting traffic issues and flight cancelations as reasons for pre-checked-in visitors to postpone or cut short their visit.
The turnout was particularly disappointing given that the number of exhibitors grew 3.5 percent to 120 for this edition, in part thanks to the addition of eight new weavers and two leather tanneries. The trade show, which is targeted to the high-end luxury houses, has become for many brands the starting point for their fabric research, in this instance for spring 2021.
However, some visitors quite enjoyed the calm setting. “What I like about Blossom Première Vision is that it’s at human scale,” said Pierre Kaczmarek, the founder

BFC Takes Men’s Brands to Milan in Deal With Italy’s Camera della Moda

LONDON — With question marks still hovering over Brexit and British citizens voting today in a key general election, the British Fashion Council is forging even closer ties with its counterparts on the Continent and taking a slice of London Fashion Week Men’s to Milan.
On Thursday, the BFC will announce a collaboration with Italy’s Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana that will see a series of events take place from Jan. 11 to 13 during Milan Fashion Week Men’s. Instead of showing in London, A-Cold-Wall will stage its fall 2020 runway show at the Palazzo del Ghiaccio.
Alexander McQueen, which has staged men’s presentations in both London and Milan in the past, will return to the Italian city on Jan. 12. Stella McCartney will continue showcasing her men’s collection in Milan, this time with appointments at the brand’s showroom rather than an event.
Additionally, there are plans for other London men’s labels to  take part in a London Show Rooms art installation at Spazio Savona 56.
The BFC and the Camera also plan to invite British and Italian labels that share a special affiliation with London to a cocktail for Italian fashion manufacturers and textile companies.

Mary Beth Blake Leaves Tailored Brands as Losses Mount in Third Quarter

The changes continue to come fast and furiously at Tailored Brands, with Mary Beth Blake, a longtime company executive who served most recently as president of the Jos. A. Bank Clothiers division, exiting the corporation.
In reporting lower third-quarter results Wednesday afternoon, the Fremont, Calif.-based retailer said the divisional president role has been eliminated and Carrie Ask, who had been president of the Men’s Wearhouse and Moores division, has been named to the newly created position of chief customer officer.
“We believe the new structure heightens our focus and ability to unlock value across our brand portfolio and will enable us to show up for our customers in more effective and efficient ways,” said chief executive officer Dinesh Lathi. “After more than a decade of impactful leadership at Tailored Brands, Mary Beth Blake, brand president, Jos. A. Bank, is resigning from the company. We are immensely grateful for everything Mary Beth has done to enhance our performance and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
Lathi took over the helm at the men’s retail chain last March after the departure of Doug Ewert as ceo. Since that time, he has parted ways with many of the company’s longtime executives and filled

Gen Z Wants Two-way Communication With Brands, Product Co-creation

Gen Z is on track to be the largest, best educated, most financially powerful and diverse generation, according Lizzy Eisenberg, director of market development for Afterpay, who shared stats about the consumer segment aged 4 to 24.
“Many are super young and haven’t come into their spending power yet, but they are still spending $ 143 billion today,” she said, noting that some of that is their parents’ money, but that most of her research tracked consumers ages 16 to 24, who have their own money.
Key takeaways from the buy-now, pay-later platform’s demographic findings are that more than 50 percent of Gen Z identify as multiracial, and they are socially conscious, with 77 percent willing to pay more for environmentally friendly product.
These digital natives have short attention spans — just eight seconds compared to Millennials’ 15 seconds — and they are spending three hours a day on social media. When it comes to content, they prefer video. “Think sight, sound and motion when it comes to storytelling,” said Eisenberg, noting that TikTok is a platform that brands looking to engage Gen Z should focus on, as well as YouTube, which 85 percent of today’s teens use.

Court & Rowe: New Preppie Line From BCI Brands

BCI Brands has a new concept up its sleeve: The firm will introduce Court & Rowe, a preppie line of modern classics for fall.
The contemporary sportswear line will be exclusive to Nordstrom and Dillard’s, and will be sold on its own web site, Courtandrowe.com, launching next week.
The new division looks to elevate and reimagine preppie sportswear, with an emphasis on jackets, outerwear, pants, skirts and dresses, along with easy layering pieces.
“The skirt is a very important part of the preppie wardrobe,” said Emma Postal, director of brands and concept at BCI, whose brands include Court & Rowe, Vince Camuto, Chaus, CeCe by Cynthia Steffe and One State.
Among some of the skirts are pleated plaid styles, as well as swing, pencil and asymmetrical ones.
Court & Rowe will offer four collections a year: fall, holiday, spring and summer. Retail prices range from $ 49 for basic tops and T-shirts to $ 299 for topper coats. The line uses all natural fibers.
“I think our best-selling categories will be blazers, shirting and outerwear,” Postal said. The knitwear includes classic nautical sweaters, striped sweaters with novelty buttons, plaid sweaters, boucles and knits that have such French sayings as “voila” and “muse.” There are also topper coats and

What to Watch: Tailored Brands Is Showing Signs of Improvement

There are green shoots beginning to emerge for Tailored Brands.
Earlier this month, the country’s largest men’s-only public retailer raised its projections for the second fiscal quarter, which will be released on Sept. 11. It now expects net sales in the range of $ 787 million to $ 789 million, GAAP diluted earnings per share in the range of 64 cents to 66 cents and adjusted diluted EPS in the range of 78 cents to 80 cents, which is above the projections made on June 12 of adjusted EPS of 65 cents to 70 cents.
This is the first positive sign that the new management team is having an effect on a business that has been under strain since paying a whopping $ 1.8 billion to buy Jos. A. Bank in 2014, saddling the company with debt. Add to that a shift in the men’s market with tailored clothing — Tailored Brands’ bread and butter — undergoing a precipitous decline in favor of streetwear and athletic wear.
In the past year, the once high-flying company has seen most of its top executives exit and a new slate of officers at the helm. In March, Dinesh Lathi was elevated to chief executive officer, replacing longtime chief Doug

Tailored Brands Sells Corporate Apparel Division for $62 Million

Tailored Brands Inc. has officially exited the corporate apparel business.
The Fremont, Calif.-based parent company of Men’s Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank said early Monday that it has sold the division for $ 62 million in cash to a group led by its existing U.K.-based management team. Of the sale price, approximately $ 56 million was received upon closing and approximately $ 6 million is being deferred to the first quarter of fiscal 2020. The company said it will use the money to pay down debt, freeing up cash for capital expenditures.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement to sell our corporate apparel business. The consummation of this transaction supports our previously stated strategy to focus on our core retail business in the U.S. and Canada while reducing debt,” said Tailored Brands president and chief executive officer Dinesh Lathi.
At the same time, the company updated its outlook for the second fiscal quarter. It now expects net sales in the range of $ 787 million to $ 789 million, GAAP diluted earnings per share in the range of 64 cents to 66 cents and adjusted diluted EPS in the range of 78 cents to 80 cents, which is above the projections made on June 12 of

He also debuted the 508 High-Top LV Trainer — an Air Jordan-like model with cream lilac and blue suede finishing and red nylon laces. There was a new, unnamed running sneaker style on offer, too, and both were accessorized with plastic luggage tags, serving as a reminder of Vuitton’s heritage in travel.
Vuitton has been offering sneakers for a long time, but it was only after Abloh came on the scene that they became as desirable as a Keepall Bandoulière — at least to the streetwear community. Vuitton certainly needed to catch up, considering that Kering’s Balenciaga, Gucci and Alexander McQueen brands have been serving up hot sneakers constantly in recent seasons.
More sneakers than ever were spotted on the men’s spring runways — as well as on the street — even though many designers said the general trend is towards a more “dressed up” style, and away from streetwear. Sneaker designs ranged from collaborations such as Undercover x Nike; Ambush x Converse; Asics

DIGITAL DOWNLOAD: How DBA Fosters Successful Influencer Brands — Offline

A decade ago, influencer marketing didn’t exist. Now, it’s a burgeoning economy — one largely dominated by women.
Digital Brand Architects knows this economy well. In fact, it helped propel it. The nine-year-old digital talent management agency represents about 170 influencers, many of whom fall within the fashion and beauty categories, and is behind major influencer-retail partnerships such as Arielle Charnas of Something Navy and Julia Engel of Gal Meets Glam, both of whom launched clothing collections at Nordstrom.
Engel’s Gal Meets Glam Collection, which launched at 40 Nordstrom doors in April 2018, is said to have done $ 20 million at retail, including direct-to-consumer, last year. It is currently on track to do $ 35 million at retail in 2019, according to industry sources.
Nordstrom declined to comment.
“Our clients drive sales,” said Raina Penchansky, DBA’s chief executive officer. “Period, the end.”
DBA’s influencers are not only experts in content creation, they know how to impact brands’ bottom lines. Engel, Charnas, Rachel Parcell, Aimee Song and Camila Coelho are among DBA’s top sales-drivers. Song and Coelho recently launched their own labels with Revolve — deals that were brokered by Digital Brand Products, DBA’s four-year-old sister agency. Both Song and Coelho’s collections were the most successful launches Revolve

Cowboys, Y-Fronts and the New Drag: Brands to Check Out During Paris Men’s Week

PARIS — Paris men’s fashion week is having a moment: Hailing from Los Angeles, Sweden, China or Monaco, Rhude, Eytys, Li Ning and Alter are among the rising international brands that have been added to the official men’s calendar and presentation lineup this season.
GAMUT
Things are going pretty fast for Gamut, the fashion collective created in 2017 by former students of La Cambre fashion school in Brussels — which is surprising, because the seven French nationals are intent on taking their time.
“We’re continuing to experiment with the fashion calendar: We chose to skip fall 2019 to focus on our showroom, and realized that taking nine months to create a collection was a rhythm we quite liked,” said one of the members — all of whom prefer to remain anonymous — speaking at the collective’s studio at the Porte de la Chapelle, a somewhat sketchy area in the remote 18th arrondissement.
Since its first debut show last September, Gamut has added a photographer/visual director to its team, and landed a spot on the French couture federation’s official calendar for presentations. Now it’s behaving like full-fledged business with dedicated members in charge of sourcing, production, administration and communication. Decisions are still fully collegial, though.

Men’s Brands Jump Into Sustainability Efforts

Like many things in men’s wear, it often takes a bit longer for a trend to take hold than it does in women’s wear. Sustainability has been no exception. But now, most men’s brands and retailers are all in.
While some men’s designers, such as Christopher Raeburn, were early adopters, others are just now jumping on board. According to Cara Smyth, vice president of Glasgow Caledonian New York College and founder of the Fair Fashion Center sustainability program, those in the outdoor industry were among the first to embrace the movement due to their ties to nature. But the movement has since spread to a variety of men’s wear brands.
“Many men’s brands are interested in sustainability as it provides operating efficiencies that reduce impacts and reflect the values of the brand to both consumers and even investors where applicable,” she said.
So whether it’s PVH’s goal to generate zero waste, or Perry Ellis’ new solar panel installation project at its distribution center in Seneca, S.C., companies big and small have gotten on board.
Here is a closer look at some of the brands leading the way in men’s wear.

Hypebeast Knows There’s a Big Online Appetite for Luxury Brands

People like to be informed about luxury brands, whether or not they can afford them.
Huan Nguyen, vice president of brand partnerships at Hypebeast, said traffic and engagement at the streetwear-focused site grew considerably between 2015 and 2018 in content that mentioned brands like Dior, Gucci and Louis Vuitton — all of which have had some kind of major crossover with streetwear in recent years. The site increased such posts to nearly 400 from 100, saw average page views per item increase to 15,000 from 12,000 and average engagement time double to two minutes from one.
As far as Nguyen is concerned, this is as good a sign as any of “how streetwear and luxury have been best friends for quite some time,” as he put it. He used a gif from “Lady and the Tramp” of the characters smooching over pasta to drive the point home.
“The idea is that this audience isn’t necessarily the guy you see on the corner rocking head-to-toe Supreme,” Nguyen added. “Sometimes they’re just in front of their computer doing their thing, but they know a ton about the brands out there.”
There may not be a direct link between Hypebeast traffic and a brand’s sales, but

Tailored Brands Needs Major Overhaul to Improve Results

Tailored Brands managed to reverse year-ago losses in the fourth quarter, but is still struggling with a serious slowdown in sales, one that is going to require a major transformation to improve.
“This is not business as usual and we are not accepting the status quo,” Dinesh Lathi, executive chairman, said on an analysts’ call Wednesday afternoon.
Lathi said the company needs to change — and quickly — to offer more personalized products and services, a better omnichannel experience and fewer promotions in favor of more “brand stories.”
Lahti was highly critical of former management, saying the company’s issues have “roots in a degree of historical under-investment and [inability to keep] pace with an evolving customer.”
He said the company does “some things well, but we have considerable work to do in order to be considered great. There are examples where we have relied on [our market position] instead of investing to build on our leading position in the category.”
Lahti slipped into the top slot at the company last year upon the retirement of former chief executive officer Doug Ewert. Although a ceo search is ongoing, sources expect Lahti will eventually be named to the position.
In the past six months, Lahti said he has

The New Crop: 5 Standout Men’s Wear Brands

GREG LAUREN
He has what can arguably be called the most famous last name in American fashion. But that doesn’t intimidate Greg Lauren.
“It’s a very powerful name and it’s impossible for me to meet anyone without them having preconceived notions, but it’s only part of me. It doesn’t define me,” he said.
His father is Jerry Lauren, the longtime executive vice president of men’s design for Ralph Lauren Corp., And, of course, Jerry’s brother is…Greg’s Uncle Ralph. So the provenance is impressive indeed.
But Greg Lauren is his own man, with design on his mind and art in his heart. And his apparel collection, which launched in 2011, is an extension and evolution of his paintings and paper sculptures.
“I never looked at it as making a jump into fashion,” he said. Instead, he paired the innate knowledge he acquired growing up in a fashion family with his artistic aesthetic.
What that translates into on the runway is a collection that uses repurposed fabrics such as vintage duffel bags, sailors’ uniforms and Army tents to create a military-inspired assortment of deconstructed suits, field jackets, trenchcoats and even a touch of tailored clothing.
Lauren grew up loving “vintage military everything….That led me to experiment and make a

Tmall Promotion Underscores Heightened Competition in China For U.S. Brands

DEALS, DEALS, DEALS: Tmall.com created an online frenzy with its latest blowout featuring more than 1,000 fashion brands.
The apparel promotion, held twice a year — one for spring and another for fall — this time around boasts a number of brands exclusive to Tmall.com, including Timberland, Decathlon and Zara.
The retailer sweetened the deal to customers with a same-day shipping option, aided by participating stores that will send items purchased online to a customer’s home.
It’s part of a larger strategy to bridge the online and off-line worlds, said a spokeswoman with Tmall.com parent Alibaba Group.
“That’s a very important strategy for Alibaba Group,” the spokeswoman said. “You have a lot of shoppers sometimes when they order online, they want to go in stores and get a sense of the look and feel of something.”
So customers shopping in-store, can make a purchase online with the scan of a QR code or schedule to have product seen in-store delivered to their homes. The option is available in more than 10 cities.
It’s another point of distinction for the online retailer as competition remains fierce to bring U.S. brands to the Chinese consumer.
The sale — running through Wednesday — comes on the heels of Alibaba’s announcement this

5 Brands Refreshing Men’s Denim

With the rise of the men’s ath-leisure trend — the NPD Group said U.S. sales of activewear were up 6 percent in the first quarter of this year — the common narrative is that denim is what’s taking the hit.
While that’s true to a certain extent — NPD also found sales within the men’s denim category were down by 2 percent from last year in the same time frame — it hasn’t stopped brands from entering the market.
“It’s never really a good time to launch a denim brand, but we just felt like consumers are always looking for something new,” said Casey Egan, who cofounded Deconstructed Indigo Garments, a men’s and women’s denim line, in 2014. “No matter what trend comes through, denim will always have a place. We just want to challenge people to think differently about the way they wear it.”
Egan’s line joins four other men’s denim brands that are hoping to refresh the category by offering interesting washes, special details and new silhouettes that move beyond the skinny jean.

RON HERMAN
Ron Herman, who owns Ron Herman stores in California and Japan, admits the denim category is crowded.
“Of course the market is saturated, but there’s always room for good product,” he

How Men’s Wear Brands Stay Relevant

In three years, Brooks Brothers will turn 200. Paul Stuart opened its doors for the first time in 1938. The first incarnation of what is now the Mitchells Family of Stores made its debut in Westport, Conn., in 1958.
But the longevity of these retailers is more the exception than the rule.
For decades, stores like these were the backbone of the men’s industry. But as time passed and the country changed radically, a large number of specialty retailers were unable to survive and are now just a footnote in the industry’s history. The stores that have survived and prospered attribute their endurance to their ability to evolve — without losing sight of their history.
“Everything has to move forward — rust will kill you,” said Tom Mastronardi, chief marketing officer for Paul Stuart.
Arnold Aronson, managing director of retail strategies for Kurt Salmon Associates, agrees: “On a macro level, it has certainly helped that the men’s business has been on one of the more healthy and growing retail categories as men have become more fashion-conscious and eclectic in both their business and casual attire,” he said. “But the major reason that has allowed some, not all, of the venerable men’s retailers to survive

There Are More Than 100 New Brands at Forever 21: Are You Missing Out?

Get ready to shop Forever 21 in a whole new way. You may know about the retail empire’s in-house lines—like separates-driven Love 21 and plus size-friendly Forever 21+—but did you know that the store also sells other non-Forever 21 brands exclusively on its website? Check out what we found in Forever 21’s Branded Shop.

forever21

Blessed Are the Meek Open-Knit Midi Dress, $ 180, forever21.com

According to a brand spokesperson, the Forever 21 shop-in-shop experience launched in November 2014 (quietly, we might add) with approximately 20 non-Forever 21 labels. To date, there are currently more than 100—and more to follow. They range from more well-known names such as Dolce Vita, Ban.do, and Happy Socks, to up-and-coming brands like Amber Sceats, Rise of Dawn, and Clashist.

While Forever 21 isn’t the first brand to make retail partnerships work—J.Crew’s In Good Company collective started back in 2007 and Target launched a limited partnership with brands called The Shops at Target in 2012—it is interesting to see the company diversify its offerings past what we’ve known for almost 20 years.

Sunrise Brands Sells Superdry License to SuperGroup Plc.

Sunrise Brands has sold its North American license for Superdry to Superdry’s parent company, SuperGroup Plc. Terms were not disclosed.
The deal includes the exclusive rights to distribute Superdry products in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. It follows on the heels of SuperGroup’s acquisition of its Scandinavian, Spanish and German licensees over the last 18 months.
Sunrise Brands acquired the Superdry North American license in 2008 and has opened 15 stores around the U.S., including New York, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles. A store is also slated for Las Vegas.
Superdry also sells wholesale at Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s and Hudson’s Bay.

Fashion Brands Turning Out for Coachella

COACHELLA’S FASHION PLAYLIST: At this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which starts Weekend One on April 10, there’s been a turnover among some of the major fashion companies that have used the three-day weekend as one long branding showcase. Guess and Lacoste have exited the scene this year, while Pandora jewelry is arriving at the Parker Palm Springs resort with the “Pandora Jewelry Fashion Experience,” four runway shows over three days featuring Siwy Denim, Plenty by Tracy Reese, Nanette Lepore and Whit. The designers, who are creating limited edition Pandora pieces to be worn with their collections, most of which will be shoppable right from the runway, will be on hand for meet-and-greets with the invite-only crowd.
H&M, a six-year sponsor of the festival, will have a pop-up shop/experiential tent for its H&M Loves Coachella collection at the Indio, Calif., fairgrounds, but is skipping a big off-site bash this year in favor of a more intimate gathering at the Parker on Friday evening.
Saturday, April 11, will be a day of dueling fashion events in Palm Springs. The Council of Fashion Designers of America will partner with PopSugar Inc. and guest Mara Hoffman for a brunch to celebrate the April
