Walking Dead Boss Says THAT Character’s ‘Story Isn’t Done’

Warning: Spoilers for The Walking Dead episode “What We Become” follow…

[poilib element=”accentDivider”]

With tonight’s Walking Dead episode “What We Become” marking star Danai Gurira’s final appearance on the series as Michonne (as she and the character head off into the Rick Grimes movie trilogy), both Gurira and Walking Dead Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple appeared on AMC’s Talking Dead after show to discuss the episode and Michonne’s surreal “Sliding Doors”-style exit.

Despite her character not dying, and living on to exist in a different Walking Dead property, Gurira was still, understandably, emotional about this episode. “It’s overwhelming, in a sense, to have walked on this journey with this amazing character and this amazing family, the Walking Dead family out there in Georgia, for all these years.”

“[The episode] was an insane mind trip in so many ways,” Gurira said, though she was hesitant to give this alternate Michonne a label. “I don’t know if I’d call her evil, but she made a different choice at a pivotal moment. And there’s this crazy aspect of how this one choice can send you on entirely different path.”

Gimple then spoke about what he and the writers wanted to convey with Michonne’s final chapter on the show. “At the end of the day, we wanted to give an idea of what the point of the whole thing was,” he shared. “The whole journey. And she enters the story by helping someone. She chose to stop and turn and help a stranger. Over the course of seven seasons she changed. She became vulnerable. She opened up. Now, in this episode, she has a lead on Rick, which is earth-shaking. It changes everything. She has to go. And even as she does that she crosses people who need help. And we see that’s who she really is now. Even though she’s on the most important journey of her life.”

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=the-best-and-worst-walking-dead-time-jumps&captions=true”]

Michonne as Negan’s Enforcer

Gurira was asked about recreating several moments from the show’s past, including the infamous Negan lineup. “[Michonne] could have chosen to let Andrea die. She was in this moment where she was very disconnected from her humanity. Just one little knock on her heart got through her armor and she saved Andrea and everything changed. But she could have done what we watched in this episode. I found that very chilling. One choice compounds upon itself. And the very idea that she ends up with Negan felt plausible.”

“Just the aspect of being aligned with Negan, I think that alone was freaky,” she said. “[Jeffrey Dean Morgan] and I had this bizarrely good time but you’re just still freaked out that you’re doing that as an actor. But it was all plausible. The idea that there was a part of her, if she’d gone a different way, that made their connection plausible. It was a chilling thing. We spent a lot of time shooting that lineup scene originally. That scene was deeply traumatic, you know, losing Glenn and losing Abraham, and so to recreate it and to be on the other side of it…we set it up in the exact same place, the RV was behind us, and there was Negan with the bat. Everything was very chillingly the same as that night except I was batting on the other side. It was deeply trippy.”

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=the-walking-dead-what-we-become-photos&captions=true”]

What’s Next for Michonne

While Michonne’s move to the Rick movies hasn’t been made official, it’s one of the worst kept Walking Dead secrets at this point. And Gimple, while not being able to say anything outright, certainly teased as much.

“I can say this: Both Rick Grimes and Andy Lincoln would not give up those boots very easily,” he said. “There’s the etching. There’s a Japanese phrase there. There’s Michonne, and there looks to be a more current Judith than perhaps Rick…yeah, there you go. Is he alive? Is he dead? What’s the situation. Those are clues that there’s a whole story unfolding somewhere.”

When Michonne saw those boots, she confronted a part of herself that she had to bury long ago. “[Seeing Rick’s boots] feeds something inside of her that she’s tried to keep down for many years, that she put aside for the good of everyone around her,” Gurira said. “It was an awesome thing for me to see Michonne get back. To get connected to him again to have some of her hunches start to be validated.”

“[Rick leaving] was last year for us, as viewers of The Walking Dead, but for Michonne it’s been years,” Gimple added. “To see this, it just pulls her through time. It’s a whole other world.”

“Her story isn’t done,” Gimple concluded. “And the thing we were so happy to find, thematically, was we were able to conclude the character. Michonne is the person who would help those people at the end, even though she has no idea who they are. And they have this weird fashion sense. And she has a lead on Rick. And we see this group, this organized, nomadic, strong-looking group. And she’s going to them on behalf of these other people. Something’s going on here. It was great to see the character fulfill her arc in the story while also opening up a whole other story while on the road to a story we want to know more about, which is Rick.”

Anthony Mackie: You’ll Be Surprised How ‘Evolved’ Characters are in Falcon and The Winter Soldier

With Marvel’s Black Widow release date currently unchanged, the next Phase 4 project afterwards is the first-ever Disney+/MCU series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier – starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as Sam Wilson and James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes.

Mackie recently spoke to THR about how the MCU movies, in general, differ from Marvel’s new Disney+ shows, and what fans can expect from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

“They’re going to feel different in and of themselves, because they’re shot in a completely different way than the movies,” he said. “I think people are going to be surprised by how in-depth and evolved the characters become by having six to eight hours to them, instead of just two hours.”

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=how-sam-wilsonfalcon-became-captain-america&captions=true”]

Scheduled for an August release, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier also features the return of Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo and Emily Van Camp’s Sharon Carter, as well as Wyatt Russell as John Walker – aka U.S. Agent.

“When you’re on a team, you play your role,” Mackie said, of his six MCU movie appearances as Sam Wilson/Falcon. “But with this [series], you really get to see who the characters are in their lives between the movies.”

Click here for a quick rundown of how Sam Wilson became Captain America in the comics, which seems to be what this series is angling to do given how Avengers: Endgame concluded.

SNL: Eddie Murphy Brings Back Mr. Robinson, Gumby, and Other Classic Characters

For the first time in over three decades, ex-cast member Eddie Murphy hosted Saturday Night Live. Expectations were high, considering all of Murphy’s iconic SNL characters.

And Murphy gave us a lot. Mr. Robinson (his Mr. Rogers satire), Buckwheat (the Little Rascals character as a crooner), Gumby (as a cranky showbiz vet), and Velvet Jones (seller of get-rich-schemes) all made big appearances.

Decades later, Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood has undergone a significant amount of gentrification, with some of Robinson’s neighbors now paying over a million dollars for an apartment in his building.

Civil War Directors Believe MCU Will Add LGBT Characters Soon

Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo believe Marvel’s massive success could make it easier for execs to take bigger risks, like adding opening gay characters to the films.

“I think this is a philosophy of Marvel, in success it becomes easier to take risks,” Anthony Russo said. “There’s a lot of unconventional ideas in Civil War in terms of what people’s expectations of a superhero movie are, but I think we were able to do that because Winter Soldier worked.”

When asked by Collider whether would see an LGBT character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Joe Russo said “the chances are strong.” As filmmakers, Joe Russo added, “it’s important on all fronts” to push for diversity so that “storytelling becomes more interesting, more rich, and more truthful.”

The Ultimate Disney Dubsmash Has All Your Favorite Characters

Mickey Mouse, Buzz Lightyear, Pluto and the Little Mermaid are just some of the beloved characters featured in this awesome Disney Dubsmash.

The compilation, which is going viral on Facebook, shows clips of a man named Dustin Hayes using the Dubsmash app so it appears as if he’s singing to the costumed characters at Walt Disney World.

He sings Foreigner’s “Cold As Ice” to Queen Elsa from “Frozen,” mimics Ariel’s vocal gymnastics in front of the Little Mermaid herself, smolders for Rapunzel and does The Village People’s “In The Navy” with Duffy, the bear known for his sailor attire… just to name a few.

But what makes the clip work so well is how the characters all gamely play along.

Check it out in the clip above.

The clip was uploaded to YouTube earlier this month, but has been going viral since it was posted on Facebook over the weekend by a North Carolina radio station.

“It’s still blowing my mind that everybody loves this video, I cannot believe that I have a viral video now,” Hayes wrote in the comments. “Thanks for all the love everybody!”

Hayes, who according to his Facebook page works at Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park, has also posted a few other Disney Dubsmash videos on YouTube,  which you can see right here. He also has an Instagram page full of Disney photos, including some unique character shots.

Seven Cartoon Characters Who Might be on the Autism Spectrum

2015-07-02-1435863470-3995659-depositphotoanimatedtelev1.jpg 2015-07-02-1435863503-6002835-depositphotos_46884227Collectiblesmurfcharacters1.jpg 2015-07-02-1435863535-2635888-depositphotos_48404605CookieMonster.jpg
“Mom, I think that person has autism,” says my 10-year-old son Noah. And because his brother Evan is on the spectrum, he has developed an intuitive ability to detect even the most subtle signs of autism.

Sometimes Noah notices an inability to decipher social cues. Sometimes it’s an unusual speech pattern or a repetitive behavior. Once it was something as simple as a mother holding the hand of her young teenage boy.

Noah’s A-dar* got me thinking about which cartoon characters might have an autism diagnosis if such a thing existed in the world of animation. But then, like every responsible attorney, realized I probably should include some sort of disclaimer.

Caution: This post is intended for people who have an appreciation for sarcasm and humor.Yes, I know that autism is a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by deficits in social interaction and communication, a limited range of activities and interests and often the presence of repetitive behaviors. And I know that if a person exhibits one or even some of these traits, it does not necessarily mean he/she has autism. But, for the fun of it, I have diagnosed seven cartoon characters who meet at least one of the criteria for autism. Just remember; sarcasm and humor – or at least one mom’s attempt at it.

1. Cookie Monster Not only does this Sesame Street character exhibit a significant preoccupation with cookies, but his expressive language is significantly delayed when compared to his monster peers. Like many on the spectrum, if he had his way and the writers didn’t cave in to pressures to make him eat healthier, Cookie Monster would happily live on a self-restricted diet consisting of only his preferred food.

2. Schroeder, the object of Lucy’s unrequited affection, is a precocious piano playing prodigy. His savant skills are perfect, and his knowledge of all things Beethoven are nothing less than impressive. Typically, Schroeder is content to play his music and engages in very little on-going dialogue. He can, however, become easily agitated if either his piano playing or his idol Beethoven are criticized.

3. One of the 101 Dalmatians. The prevalence of autism is 1 in 68. Statistically speaking, if you have 101 Dalmatians, chances are at least one of them will fall somewhere on the spectrum.

4. Tigger clearly has issues with attention and focus. With all his bouncing around, we can also speculate that his sensory-seeking behaviors are indicative of an autism diagnosis.

5. Elmer Fudd Forget about the fact that he really needs a good speech pathologist, the guy is obsessed with killing a rabbit. Does he even talk about anything else, ever?

6. Brainy Smurf is a know-it-all intellectual who isn’t afraid to impart his wisdom upon the entire Smurf clan Do they want it? Mostly they don’t, so it’s not unusual for Brainy to be kicked outside the village or smacked over the head with a mallet. Despite the abuse, he remains oblivious to the fact that his fellow Smurfs have no interest in his “wisdom.”

7. SpongeBob wins the award for having the most characteristics of autism. Although hyperactive, he is extremely focused and determined and will do whatever it takes to accomplish a goal. Often, he is oblivious to impending danger, and his lack of awareness tends to put him and others at risk for harm. He has a hard time detecting lies, and his kind-hearted and innocent nature means he is nice to everyone, notably those who are not always kind to him. SpongeBob also has anxiety. He is especially anxious about clowns and the dark.

*A-dar is a made-up term used to refer to someone with an intuitive ability to identify an individual on the autism spectrum.

Which cartoon characters would you add to this list?
