First Lady Melania Trump Shops in Her Closet for G7 Arrival Look, But Wears Gucci for Dinner with the Macrons

SUNNY SIDE UP: In light of the increasingly fractured and troubled state of geopolitics, key world leaders have countless conundrums to deal with at the G7 Summit in Biarritz. Trade, climate change, Middle East tensions, Iran’s seizure of foreign ships and wariness of a worldwide recession based on warning signs in Germany, the U.K. and the U.S. are among the many points of concern. While the powers that will be locked in meetings for much of the weekend, their respective better halves understand how their secondary roles can potentially offer some much needed levity.
Perhaps that’s the reason that First Lady Melania Trump exited Air Force One upon arriving in France, wearing a bright yellow and white Calvin Klein dress Saturday. The sleeveless style was a throwback look that had been designed by Raf Simons. Management at Calvin Klein’s parent company PVH parted ways with him at the end of last year but FLOTUS remains a fan. (Simons is back in his native Belgium designing his own collection and he collaborated with the outerwear label Templa.) Trump has worn his designs for Calvin Klein for other occasions such as an outing during last summer’s NATO’s Summit.

“Whether it be low-end or high-end, we mix it in and blend it well,” said Future. “Because it’s not about what you wear or what you spend, it’s the person who’s wearing it. It’s how you put it together.”

11 Things Every Fashion Lover Has in Her Closet

Whether you’re the type of fashion lover who’s always wearing heels or the type that practically lives in jeans, there are some commonalities between you and the rest of your shopaholic sisters. After hours spent shopping and even more time putting outfits together and thinking about what to wear, there’s a lot of stuff and emotion hidden behind those closet doors.

04-rom-com-halloween-costumes-sex-and-the-city

1. A serious sale buy.
It might not fit or be in style any more, but you got such a good deal on it that there’s no way you’re giving it up.

2. One category with at least three options.
The exact section that’s over-stuffed will depend on your particular weak spot. Whether it’s a penchant for striped shirts, little white dresses, or basic gray t-shirts, you’ve got the beginnings of a collection.

3. Something you know you spent too much money on.
You’re willing to admit you overspent. But it was too perfect/special/insanely wonderful to not buy, even if it blew your budget.

4. An uncomfortable pair of shoes.
The very thought of putting them on might make your feet ache, but they’re too gorgeous to give up.

5. Something that’s off-season.
It belongs in the totally opposite sort of weather than what’s currently happening outside your window, but it was too good of a find to pass up. Until the right season rolls around, it’ll be nice and safe sitting in your closet.

6. The perfect cocktail dress.
Whether it’s one you’ve worn a dozen times or a brand new buy, it’s ready in case a last-minute invite comes your way.

7. A flea market find makes everyone jealous.
Whether you found it at a hole-in-the-wall vintage place, a consignment store, or your grandmother’s closet, it was the score of a century and every one of your friends has trouble hiding their jealousy.

8. Something with a memory attached.
As a fashion-lover, you connect special events with what you were wearing. It might have been the dress you wore on the first date with someone special or a blouse you had on when you interviewed for your dream job, but either way, it has to stay.

9. Certain pieces you’re positive you’ll wear. Some day.
That old advice about tossing stuff that hasn’t been worn in a year is lost on you. As a fashion addict, you’ve got at least one piece that you haven’t actually worn yet, but there’s always tomorrow.

10. Seen-better-days basics.
When you love shopping, it’s tempting to focus all your discretionary budget on the fun stuff. Why bother replacing your basic tanks and tights when there are new trends to play with?

11. The one piece your friends always borrow.
With style like yours, you’re the one people are always ask for a fashionable loan. As such, at any given time your closet is short a dress, bag, or pair of shoes.

Mariah Carey’s Shoe Closet Is Just as Fabulous as You’d Imagine

In case the world needed a reminder that Mariah Carey has one of the most fabulous closets in the world, the pop diva gave us a little peek at her beautifully organized shoe salon. This snap just covers a section of her full collection, but let’s put the size of this in perspective: we’re looking at four stacked shelving areas just for her gold and brown heels. So, ahem, the entire area devoted to her shoes is beyond gigantic.

Mariah gave fans and the fashion-obsessed a more complete tour of her closet back in 2010 and unless she’s replicated those golden inlays on the floor, it’s the same space as seen in her latest Instagram. Her clothes are arranged in bays more similar to a store layout than a traditional closet, and, of her shoes, Mimi confessed she’s not bothered my pain.

“The style that I favor would be a high stiletto. The thing about my shoes is that they always hurt, but hey, if they look good…” she says in the video. “There was a time in my life when I only had one pair of shoes. I saved those shoes, but I can’t find them now.”

The singer has had a lot of time to work on her closet collection: she’s been on the scene for over twenty years now (“Emotions” topped charts in 1991!). For this May’s Billboard awards, she pulled out all the stops in a Tom Ford gown and Saint Laurent heels.

9 Simple Hacks That Will Help Organize That Mess You Call a Closet

By: Christopher Discipio

2015-06-24-1435163913-397570-closet_1.jpg

It’s finally time to get your organizational act together and clear the clutter. Not only does having clothes strewn about everywhere look unsightly, it’s also incredibly inefficient because a) you’re not even really sure what you own, and b) even if you did know, you wouldn’t be able to access the clothing anyways. The 9 simple hacks below will transform your mess into a lean, mean, coordinated machine so you can actually wear what you’ve spent your hard-earned cash on.

1. Call your local plumber
What you need: PVC pipe and a pipe cutter/hand saw.
What it does: Creates a handy storage compartment for your watches, belts, suiting accessories, etc.

You can store the tubes of piping in a drawer, plastic container under your bed, in a box on your desk, etc. If you do indeed store ’em in a drawer or something with a cover, measure the height of the compartment and cut your pipe accordingly. Roll up your belts and ties, use them to hold watches, tie bars, and other assorted jewelry. You could even put one near your front door to act as a catchall for keys, change, etc.

2. Use a pegboard
What you need: A pegboard and pegboard hooks.
What it does: Creates a space to hang and store clothing, accessories, etc.

Install it on your bedroom wall and hang up tomorrow’s outfit so it’s ready to go the next morning. Use it to store jewelry and other small items (ties, scarves, etc.). A pegboard and a few hooks results in an invaluable space to hang, well, just about anything.

3. File your t-shirts
What you need: Hands.
What it does: Makes storing your t-shirts more efficient.

Instead of storing them in the traditional fashion, put your t-shirts in the drawer using a filing system. This allows you to fit more shirts and get a much better sense of what you own (so you don’t continuously wear the same six tees).

4. Drink up
What you need: An empty cardboard wine box.
What it does: The box that got you drunk becomes a place to store your shoes, ties, belts, accessories, etc.

A 12 bottle wine box will hold six pairs of shoes (one shoe per slot). You could also use it to store off-season items, ties, and belts. Keep it under your bed so everything stays out of the way.

5. Get your hanger game up
What you need: Identical hangers in different colors and/or closet organizers.
What it does: Helps sort your clothing by type, color, and occasion.

There are three routes you can take here. Either you can buy the same exact hanger in different colors to coordinate your clothing (i.e. shirts on blue hangers, pants on white), or you can use closet organizers to separate everything. But the ultimate step in clothing management is to utilize both techniques. For example, put all your shirts on blue hangers and use closet organizers to further separate them into work shirts, going out shirts, etc.

But, regardless of the route you choose, always sort your clothing by color to make everything more accessible and tidy.

The other 4 hacks to organize that closet of yours, are waiting at Jackthreads.com!

Teen’s Hilarious Senior Quote Puts New Spin On Coming Out Of The Closet

Maxwell Barrett wanted to leave high school “with a bang.” He succeeded.

The 18-year-old senior at Raritan High School in Hazlet, New Jersey, tweeted a screenshot of his yearbook photo and accompanying quote on Tuesday:

The quote, credited to “Unknown,” reads: “Of course I dress well, I didn’t spend all that time in the closet for nothing.”

“I wanted to go out with a bang,” Barrett, who is indeed very snappily dressed in the photo, told The Huffington Post. “I had never done sports, or clubs. I was always just an art student. I wanted to go out in a way people would remember me by!” He added that he didn’t come up with the quote completely on his own, but had rephrased a similar quote he’d seen online.

Barrett said he was “out” as gay to most people around him. Though he had never officially told his parents, he said he could tell that they already knew. “It was just more of a confirmation to [my parents] than a coming-out story,” he said.

And his parents’ reaction?

“They said it was the best one in the yearbook and that they were proud of me,” Barrett said. He mentioned that his classmates also loved it, and that even teachers had pulled him aside to congratulate him and comment on the quote.

Barrett said a yearbook supervisor initially told him they weren’t going to run the quote because of its “shock value.”

However, Hazlet Township Public School Superintendent Bernard Bragen could not confirm that happened.

“My understanding is that it was never pulled,” he said.

Frida’s Garden, Frida’s Closet: The Artist and Her Personal Artifacts

Ishiuchi Miyako, Frida by Ishiuchi #34, 2012-2015. © Ishiuchi Miyako. Courtesy Michael Hoppen Gallery.

Of all the important artists of the modern era, Frida Kahlo’s work is perhaps the most inseparable from her biography and her unique physical appearance. Her life and art are presently interpreted in three exhibitions–in New York, London, and Mexico City–through the objects she surrounded herself with or used to adorn her body. By studying Kahlo’s personal effects and the environment she immersed herself in, can we learn anything new about the artist we know so well? Do these objects reveal something about her daily reality that her stoic visage belies? Followers of the Kahlo-cult won’t be disappointed with these three exhibitions of her artifacts, which aim to deepen our understanding of her relationship to life and death, pain and beauty, and her enduring love of Mexico.

“Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life,” curated by art historian Adriana Zavala at the New York Botanical Garden, celebrates Kahlo’s love of nature in this summer blockbuster exhibition. Walls painted an intense azure blue complemented with accents of terra cotta evoke Kahlo’s lifelong home, known as the Casa Azul, in the Coyoacán suburb of Mexico City. In the Garden’s conservatory, cacti, succulents, and colorful marigolds take center stage on a brightly painted pyramid, a scale model of the one at Casa Azul that Diego Rivera used to display his collection of pre-Columbian sculpture. Calla lilies, sunflowers, ivy, palms, and other types of flowers and plants that Kahlo painted, and pinned in her plaited hair, appear in abundance. In a small gallery in the library of the Botanical Garden, fourteen of Kahlo’s paintings and works on paper are also on display, focusing in particular on her still life paintings, which abound with melons, citrus, cactus fruits, and sometimes birds or other animals.

“Art, Garden, Life” is verdant and succulent, an unabashed celebration of Kahlo’s iconic art and likeness, and of Mexican culture in general. “Frida al Fresco” evenings bring live music, cocktails, and Mexican dining to the Botanical Garden; “Frida’s Flora and Fauna” leads children and families on a scavenger hunt for botanical specimens; and “Cooking with Frida” demonstrations teach visitors how to prepare Mexican cuisine. Kahlo felt an intense connection to Mexico–in the years she spent abroad in the United States and France, she complained bitterly of homesickness–and particularly to the Casa Azul, whose surroundings and lush plant life loom in the background of many of her paintings.

Frida Kahlo began and ended her life within the confines of the Casa Azul. It was at Casa Azul–as Kahlo lay convalescing from the traumatic trolley accident she endured at the age of 18 that would haunt her for the rest of her life–where she first began to paint. It was at Casa Azul where she and Rivera entertained countless Mexican and international artists, poets, and intellectuals. And it was at Casa Azul where Kahlo died, in 1954, at the age of 47. Her ashes rest in an urn in one of the rooms on the upper floor. After Kahlo’s death, Rivera placed her personal belongings–her clothes, jewelry, medical supplies, and other items–out of view, in a bathroom of the Casa Azul, which was to stay sealed until 15 years after his death. Rivera died in 1957. The room, however, remained shut until 2004.

At Casa Azul, now the Frida Kahlo Museum, the items that were locked away for so many years are now on display in a long-term exhibition entitled “Appearances Can Be Deceiving: Frida Kahlo’s Wardrobe.” Her many Tehuana dresses bear witness to her fierce sense of Mexicanidad, while invoking, as curator Circe Henestrosa argues, the image of the powerful women of the matriarchal Tehuantepec region. The long skirts also benefitted Kahlo in that they disguised her infirmities: her withered right leg, the result of a bout of polio she contracted at the age of six; and the effects of that devastating traffic accident, wherein her spine was broken in three places, her uterus pierced through, and her foot crushed. The lasting trauma from the accident would prevent Kahlo from ever bearing children, and forced her to wear orthopedic braces and corsets to support her spine, particularly later in life as she became increasingly weak. These corsets and prosthetics, along with her dresses, costumes, jewelry, and other items displayed throughout five rooms of the museum, demonstrate how Kahlo went about constructing her identity. The exhibition’s title originates from a drawing by Kahlo showing her frail, buttressed body, disguised by the voluminous folds of her skirts and shawls.

Ishiuchi Miyako, Frida by Ishiuchi #36, 2012-2015. © Ishiuchi Miyako. Courtesy Michael Hoppen Gallery.

The objects, prosthetics, and adornments through which Kahlo transformed herself hold a striking power. Japanese artist Ishiuchi Miyako, invited by Henestrosa to document Kahlo’s secret wardrobe when it was opened at last, captured these objects in an extraordinary series of photographs, on view now at Michael Hoppen Gallery in London. Ishiuchi’s photographs have garnered an immense response from a worldwide audience. These photographs, simply styled and elegant, seem to translate so effectively the character of Frida Kahlo–her shimmering vitality, her independence, her coquettish style, and her resilience in the face of pain and trauma. The prosthetic leg she had fashioned, after her right leg was amputated near the end of her life, reveals a defiant pair of jingle bells. A wretched old cast she wore over her torso, embellished with circular mirrors, illustrations, and a prominent hammer and sickle symbol, demonstrates her allegiance to Communism as well as a healthy dose of surrealism.

Ishiuchi Miyako, Frida by Ishiuchi #100, 2012-2015. © Ishiuchi Miyako. Courtesy Michael Hoppen Gallery.

Ishiuchi Miyako is adept at conveying through photography the inherent memory of objects. In previous projects, Mother’s (2000-2005) and Hiroshima (2007-ongoing), Ishiuchi takes as her subject worn garments evoking absent bodies, some of them victims of the horrific nuclear attacks of World War II. While Ishiuchi knew very little about Frida Kahlo before documenting her wardrobe, she came to be acquainted with the artist through the traces left behind on her personal belongings. The remarkable, magnetic energy of these items is vibrantly clear in her photographs, from the abundant, heavy folds of Kahlo’s Tehuana skirts, to the delicate, moth-eaten fabric of a swimming costume. In one photograph, a pair of long black gloves stretches slender fingers outwards, grasping and ghostly.

Ishiuchi Miyako, Frida by Ishiuchi #86, 2012-2015. © Ishiuchi Miyako. Courtesy Michael Hoppen Gallery.

Although interpreting an artist’s work through her life and personal items gives us an incomplete view–appearances can be deceiving–these displays of Kahlo’s relics and passions reveal facets of her constructed identity, and show that her love of life, nature, and Mexico, and her battle with disability, death, and trauma, were intrinsically and vitally connected.

“FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life,” installation view, 2015. Courtesy of the New York Botanical Garden. Photo: Robert Benson.

“FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life” at the New York Botanical Garden is accompanied by an extensive catalogue, special programming events, and special artist projects. It is on view through November 1, 2015.

Ishiuchi Miyako, “Frida,” runs from May 13 to July 12 at Michael Hoppen Gallery in London.

“Appearances Can Be Deceiving” at the Frida Kahlo Museum remains on view at the museum until 2018.

Kim Kardashian Cried When Kanye Overhauled Her Closet

Kim Kardashian just confirmed that hubby Kanye West was indeed super instrumental in turning her into one of today’s most stylish celebs—and it sounds like he was pretty ruthless throughout the makeover process.

kim-kardashian-black-cape-dress

“When we first started dating, he went through my closet and he had a stylist come in and they put everything he thought wasn’t cool enough in a pile. I walked in and it was like a pile to the ceiling of shoes, all my amazing shoes that I loved. I started crying,” she explained on Live! With Kelly and Michael yesterday. “I put it all in another room and I was like, ‘I’ll trust your opinion, but I’m not getting rid of my stuff.’ Then I walk in my room and there was an entire room filled of all new clothes, of all the stuff he wanted to fill back up my closet with. It was really cool new designer stuff; I hadn’t even heard of some of these designers before, and it really helped me fall in love with fashion.”

Kanye didn’t stop after the initial round either—he nixed the Balmain pantsuit she planned on wearing on Live! right before Kim walked out the door, telling her, “I think you should be a little more simple today.”

Lest the world think its favorite selfie-taker is totally at the hands of Kanye, know that she sticks up for herself too. “Sometimes I tell him to dress it up a little bit,” she said, calling her hubby’s style “very simple.” And when he tried to also advise her on hair after the Balmain switcheroo, she stuck to her guns, telling him “You only get one thing: outfit or glam.”

Oh, and Kim admitted she did eventually get rid of most of the stuff from that initial purge (maybe it’s what the world’s been buying on eBay).

Kylie and Kendall Jenner Have Actually Gotten Lost in a Family Member’s Closet

As part of a very fashionable family, no one was surprised when Kendall and Kylie Jenner entered the creative space as professionals. Among their individual accomplishments (beauty lines, walking in Chanel shows), the girls also carve out time to work together, creating an eponymous line sold at PacSun. The twosome chatted with Glamour about what it’s like to do work together on the line that hit stores last week.

kylie-kendall-jenner-pacsun-collaboration

Glamour: How is it working together?

Kylie Jenner: Kendall and I do just about everything with each other, but as we’ve grown up, our interests are changing. It’s really nice to be able to spend time on something we love and work together so closely on this since we can’t always be together.

Kendall Jenner: Totally. We’re sisters, so we’re always going to butt heads a bit, but at the end of the day, we respect each other’s opinions. We’ve worked together on the collection from start to finish, so there’s a little of Kylie and a little of me in every piece.

Glamour: Which piece from the new collection do you think you’ll end up living in?

Kendall: Oh God. It’s tough, but I’m gonna go with the crochet bikini. It’s different compared to the other swimsuits that I have at home, and I feel like it’ll be my go-to for pool parties or the beach this summer.

Kylie: I love that suit too! I guess I’d have to say the crochet romper because it’s different than what we’ve designed in the past. Something about it makes it so easy to dress up or down when I’m with my friends, or I’ll throw it on when I have to run errands.

Glamour: Describe each other’s style in a few words…

Kendall: Kylie, you go first.

Kylie: Let’s see…timeless, casual, and chic?

Kendall: I can work with that. My three words [for Kylie] would be edgy, fun…different. Wait, can I use “out there”?

Glamour: Totally. We’ve heard you both say whose family member’s style you admire the most, but who has the best closet, physical space-wise?

Kylie: Definitely Kim.

Kendall: All of our sisters have amazing closets, but Kim’s is insane. You could literally get lost in there. I probably actually have once or twice.

5 Things to Spring Clean Besides Your Closet

Ah, Spring Cleaning. The perfect time to clean the dust bunnies out from under your bed and rid yourself of those sweaters that are missing a few buttons (you will never get around to sewing those back on, just face it). While you’re at it, though, you may want to see what else is hiding in that closet of yours…everybody’s got a few skeletons. In the most general sense, spring cleaning is a great time to get organized and donate some old clothes to a good charity, but there might be some other areas of your life that could use a little dusting. My biz is all about shedding old stuff to help make new starts – and here’s a great list of things to help you on your way. After all, the trash won’t take itself out.

Your friends

If your first reaction to this idea was that it’s completely absurd, you’ve got a pretty good support system and needn’t worry. However, if you’ve got a certain someone in mind right off the bat, dump them! It implies that this person is a repeat offender, and probably doesn’t deserve your friendship. Anybody that makes you feel or think negatively shouldn’t be in your life, and you don’t owe them anything- not even cordiality.

Your fridge

When was the last time you really went through your fridge and checked expiration dates? Bad milk, yogurt and ziplocked leftovers have a tendency to overstay their welcome. Clearing them out will make it easier to grab that bottle of wine in the back of the fridge. In short, get rid of that crap and make room for new, fresh things in your fridge — literally and metaphorically.

Your social media

There is nothing wrong with deleting old pictures that just do not reflect your life today, people do it all the time. If you’ve got Instagram snaps with your ex that you’ve contemplated deleting, go for it! If you’ve got twitter uploads that are just no longer funny, trash ’em! If you’ve got embarrassing facebook pics of yourself from high school with a bad haircut, what are you even doing? Forget how many likes these pictures got, do what is right for you.

Your ipod

That is, if anybody still uses an ipod. If you do, chances are, you’ve got some pretty old music on there that you’ll just end up skipping over anyway. Do yourself a favor and clean it up, it’ll make getting to your current jams a lot faster.

Gifts from your ex

Unless you’re still on good terms with your ex, you probably have no use for those random trinkets you received during the relationship. Of course, it’s always up to your discretion on what stays and what goes…but what goes might just make someone else’s day. Ah, spring cleaning…there’s always something to be gained. And we know just the place!

To Discuss: Kimye for Balmain, Kim’s Crazy-Messy Closet, North’s $62,000 Tiara

So much news in the Kardashian sphere to discuss and digest! First, this morning Kim Kardashian broke the news that she and hubby Kanye West are starring together in a Balmain ad that shows them as quite the glam couple, shiny-haired and midkiss. I’m not crazy shocked since the brand’s long had a cozy relationship with the family, though I am interested that they’ve embraced the couple’s celebrity in such an official way.

Showing a less glam side of Kim is this Insta snap of her picking out an outfit and proving that even celebs have messy moments.

Based on the layout of the area pictured, the cold flooring, and the skinny bookshelf, I’m venturing that this is actually a hallway area outside of Kim’s bedroom (and that, indeed, her actual closet is stunning and pretty well organized). I understand overflow of clothing and accessories, but mine typically just flows onto the floor of my tiny closet or haphazardly perches on top of hangers—in other words, no pretty hallway to hold an extra rack. Regardless, it’s still nice to know that picking an outfit can sometimes be about sorting through a mess.

Now, on to the tiara news. Radar Online claims that Kanye spent $ 62,000 on a diamond-encrusted crown for the little one so that her dress-up time would be ultra luxurious. I’ve never felt more jealous of a toddler and have to tell you guys, I never really got jewelry as a kid (and especially no diamonds!). My mom was always too afraid I’d lose stuff, which, honestly, was probably the right assumption.

We’ve got three pieces of Kardashian news, but which is most interesting/surprising to you?

The One Blazer Every Woman Needs In Her Closet

tux-blazer

Are you ready for this? I know it sounds crazy, but tuxedo blazers may very well change your life. We have always been fans of the classic schoolboy blazer, but a tuxedo version of the same kicks the trend up a notch and is, perhaps, our favorite transitional piece of the season.

Single or double-breasted, try to find a jacket that has a contrasting lapel. Opt for a totally classic option in all-black with a contrasting material like silk, or find a more graphic white blazer with black lapel and have a little more fun with the trend.

We have never been more serious when we say that this piece works for every part of your life. Throw it over a dress for work, style it with a t-shirt and jeans on the weekend, or pair it with a cocktail dress for all of those holiday parties you have on your calendar. Though perfect as an outerwear option on warmer fall days, a tux blazer is totally polished enough to be able to wear over a party dress for the duration of the evening.

Just in time for the holiday season, shop these 10 tux blazers below.

How do you style your tuxedo blazer? Let us know in the comments below.

This New Take on Traditional Plaid Is Exactly What Your Closet Has Been Missing!

windowpane

It all started with Chloe’s pre-fall presentation. Bright whites and deep blacks formed a pattern we vaguely recognized as plaid but wasn’t quite the tartan of our past. A few months later, a similar geometric pattern covered everything from long-line blazers to menswear trousers in the 3.1 Phillip Lim fall show. It wasn’t until Rosie Assoulin’s presentation that same season that our love solidified as we watched a model walk out in the most gorgeous cream, navy, and white sweater we STILL have on our wish list. Yes, we are talking about windowpane plaid, and, yes, we are officially obsessed.

Windowpane plaid is this season’s must-have clean, refreshingly modern take on our favorite traditional pattern. Plaid swoops in with the autumn season like florals in the springtime, but we are always seeking ways to mix it up in a different way. In every silhouette under the sun, windowpane plaid is going to be our new favorite pattern for years to come.

Have you been searching for that new fall piece that’s just so classic but with a hint of modernity? Shop some of our windowpane loves below—and don’t wait to mix it into your cold-weather wardrobe!

What do you think of this new take on traditional plaid? Will you try it this season, or have you already?
