Halo Vet Joseph Staten Joins 343 to Get Halo Infinite ‘Back on Track’

Update (8/26/20) – Microsoft and 343 Industries have confirmed that Joseph Staten will “be returning home to Halo for a bit.”

The news was revealed on Halo Waypoint, further clarifying that Staten will officially be joining as project lead for Halo Infinite’s campaign after helping launch Tell Me Why this week.

In addition to Staten, Pierre Hintze, the head of the publishing team for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, will be joining the Halo Infinite team as a project lead for its Free-To-Play multiplayer experience.

Hintze and his team “have demonstrated an amazing ability to deliver new content, an excellent flighting program, and substantive updates across MCC over the past year.”

Halo veteran Joseph Staten, who was instrumental in the success of Bungie’s Halo games, has been brought over to 343 Industries to help get Halo Infinite “back on track.”

As reported by Bloomberg, Microsoft will also be shifting one more senior leader to Halo Infinite, and sources say these changes are to “provide more expertise to the project.” Microsoft is expected to announce these moves as early as tomorrow, August 27.

Staten and the other senior leader will reportedly work with studio head Chris Lee and report to Bonnie Ross, the Microsoft VP who oversees 343.

Staten began his career at Bungie in 1998 as a product manager on Myth II: Soulblighter, and was the writer and director of cinematics for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, the writer for Halo 3 and Halo: Reach, a creative consultant for Halo Wars, the writer and creative director of Halo 3: ODST, and the writer and co-creative director for Destiny.

Staten did leave Bungie in 2013, before the release of Destiny, and he rejoined Microsoft in 2014 to work on non-Halo games in the Xbox portfolio.

According to Bloomberg, he was overseeing another Microsoft-published game before this decision.

Halo Infinite was delayed to 2021 earlier this month, and it was undoubtedly a difficult decision as it was set up to be the marquee launch game for the Xbox Series X.

Netflix’s The Last Days of American Crime Joins the Rotten Tomatoes 0% Club

The consensus appears to be in: Netflix’s new dystopian thriller The Last Days of American Crime has entered an elite group of the worst movies ever made.

Following its arrival on Netflix on June 5, The Last Days of American Crime is sitting at 0% on the Rotten Tomatoes ‘Tomatometer’ spectrum. None of the 28 reviews tracked to date have been positive.

As noted by Variety, only around 40 films have the distinction of retaining a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after at least 20 reviews have been collected, placing The Last Days of American Crime in the company of esteemed corkers like Dennis Rodman’s Simon Sez, the 99-minute 1988 McDonald’s commercial Mac and Me, and Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol. Of course, without the 20-review caveat the list of films with 0% on Rotten Tomatoes is much larger; there’s a huge amount of dreck at the bottom of the Rotten Tomatoes barrel with only a small handful of reviews aggregated (including piles of direct-to-DVD debris and several other Police Academy sequels).

Directed Olivier Megaton (Taken 2 and… Taken 3), The Last Days of American Crime is an action thriller based on a 2009 graphic novel of the same name. Set in the near future, the story revolves around a crew of crooks seeking to execute one, final big score before the government broadcasts a nationwide signal that will render the population unable to deliberately break the law. IGN’s review called it bloated, boring, and “distractingly dull.”

WWD is among 800 media publishers, creators, public figures and organizations joining the social media platform’s $ 50 million initiative, which launched last month to produce more original content and provide informative and instructive videos on the app.
As part of the program, WWD’s TikTok account will feature five short-form videos per week that educate viewers on different areas of fashion, beauty and retail. WWD has already started producing this content, launching a franchise called “Lessons in Style” that focuses on topics such as the history of the little black dress, Nineties supermodels and iconic Met Gala red-carpet looks. WWD is the only fashion brand participating in the initiative’s launch.

Loewe Joins in Fight Against Coronavirus

FOR KIDS’ SAKE: Loewe is pitching in to the global effort to fight the coronavirus.
In a joint statement, Loewe chief executive officer Pascale Lepoivre and artistic director Jonathan Anderson said the brand would donate 100,000 surgical masks to the Spanish Red Cross. In addition, it is making nonsurgical masks at its factory in Getafe, Spain, for volunteer workers, Loewe employees and their families.
The Spanish luxury house, which is owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, will also donate a portion of the proceeds from its upcoming Paula’s Ibiza capsule collection to educational projects, starting with an initial gift of 500,000 euros.
For its fourth collection with Paula’s, a former Ibiza institution founded by Armin Heinemann and Stuart Rudnick in the Seventies, Loewe will donate 40 euros for every product sold between May and August in Loewe stores and on its web site.
“To achieve this, Loewe is collaborating with Plataforma de Infancia — a Spanish alliance of social organizations that works to protect children and adolescents’ rights — to launch a series of educational programs this summer in Spain which aims to reduce inequality and school dropouts,” Lepoivre and Anderson said.

Gucci Joins the Lion’s Share Fund

GUCCI’S LION’S SHARE: Gucci is once again raising funds to combat the changes in nature and biodiversity globally. To this end, the Italian company has joined the Lion’s Share Fund — the first fashion and luxury brand to adhere.
Led by the United Nations Development Programme and a coalition of businesses, the fund aims to raise more than $ 100 million a year within the next five years for animal conservation, biodiversity and climate by asking brands to contribute 0.5 percent of their media spend every time an animal is featured in their advertisements.

LONDON — The British Fashion Council on Monday released its final schedule for September’s London Fashion Week, with some new additions to the spring 2016 lineup.
MM6 Maison Margiela is set to stage a presentation in London, after having previously shown in New York. The Maison Margiela diffusion line had skipped the fall 2015 season, after John Galliano was named creative director of Maison Margiela in October 2014. The latest MM6 presentation — for resort 2016 — took place in New York. The spring 2016 presentation is set to take place Sunday, Sept 20.
Zandra Rhodes is also new to the schedule, with the veteran London designer staging a presentation Friday, Sept. 18.
As reported last month, Versus Versace will stage a runway show during London Fashion Week for the first time Saturday, Sept. 19, while other new names to the schedule include Alexander Lewis, Hill & Friends and Peter Jensen.

Andy Comer Joins Tommy Bahama in Creative Post

Andy Comer, whose fashion industry career includes Gilt Groupe, GQ and Nordstrom, has joined Tommy Bahama as vice president of creative services.
Comer, who will report to Rob Goldberg, executive vice president of marketing for the brand, will be based in the company’s Seattle headquarters.
Goldberg said Comer’s “diverse background of digital, media and retailing with some of the world’s most iconic brands fits nicely with Tommy Bahama’s long-term plans and initiatives. Andy’s keen sense of the marketplace, coupled with his original style, will undoubtedly help him be successful in this role. Comer will be responsible for the development of Tommy Bahama’s creative brand strategies, visuals and messaging for all channels including men’s and women’s wholesale, retail, e-commerce, licensing and restaurants. Mr. Comer will also oversee seasonal photo shoots, store design, media campaigns and direct-to-consumer materials to ensure a consistent message across all platforms.

Michele Scannavini Joins Tod’s Board of Directors

NEW ADDITION: Former Coty chief executive officer Michele Scannavini is now a non-executive, independent member of the board of directors of Tod’s SpA, the Italian fashion and accessories company that owns the Tod’s, Hogan, Fay and Roger Vivier brands.
His new role emerged at the Tod’s shareholders meeting April 22, where Tod’s president and ceo Diego Della Valle discussed his brands’ business results and projected growth over the next several years.
Scannavini, who spent 12 years at Coty, headed up the Prestige division there for many years. Previously, he had worked for Procter & Gamble, Ferrari and Maserati, and had served as ceo of Italy’s Fila Holding SpA.
Della Valle, his brother Andrea Della Valle, son Emanuele Della Valle and former Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo are also among the 15 members of Tod’s board of directors.

Bill Kreutzmann, Grateful Dead Drummer, Joins Street Musician In San Francisco (And No One Noticed)

Tickets to the sold-out Grateful Dead concerts in Chicago this summer are fetching thousands of dollars online, but one member of the band played briefly for free in public on Sunday in front of a crowd of almost no one.

A video posted on Facebook shows Bill Kreutzmann, drummer and a member of the Dead since the band began in Palo Alto, California, in 1965, joining a street musician outside the Ferry Terminal Building in San Francisco.

The musician appears to be John F. King II, who’s known for drumming on garbage cans and other found objects. Kreutzmann posted the clip showing himself performing “undercover” in front of a decidedly smaller crowd than the ones he’ll face in Chicago.

In fact, it seems as if no one noticed at all:

Remember parking lot drum circles? I do. (And I’ll still join in, undercover… even after Sunday brunches in San Francisco.)

Kreutzmann has been busy of late. His tell-all book, “Deal: My Three Decades of Drumming, Dreams, and Drugs with the Grateful Dead” will be released in May. And of course, in July he’ll take the stage in the Windy City with his old bandmates for what’s being billed as the Grateful Dead’s final concerts.

Dakota Johnson Joins ISIS In Provocative ‘SNL’ Spoof

Well, this got people’s attention.

Dakota Johnson of “Fifty Shades of Grey” bids an emotional farewell to her father and joins up with ISIS in an edgy “Saturday Night Live” spoof that aired this weekend.

The bit parodies a Toyota Camry ad in which a father drops off his daughter at the airport so she can presumably depart for military duty.

Only in the faux commercial, “SNL” guest host Johnson reassures her weepy pop (Taran Killam), “Dad, it’s just ISIS.” Then some gun-toting Islamic State fighters drive into view to escort her away, slamming the brakes on the sentimental moment.

In the wake of growing reports of women joining the Islamic State and kidnappings by the militant group, the sketch was sure to touch a nerve.

According to reports, it has been met with both outrage and applause.

Leslie Jones Joins ‘Saturday Night Live’ Cast

“Saturday Night Live” has promoted writer and sometimes “Weekend Update” guest Leslie Jones to a cast member. NBC confirmed the news to HuffPost Entertainment after Deadline.com broke the story. Jones and the show tweeted their excitement:


Jones has been a staff writer on the show since early 2014 and was one of 12 finalists for a cast spot that ended up going to Sasheer Zamata last year. Since joining “SNL,” she’s appeared in memorable “Weekend Update” segments, including a controversial bit on slavery last May. She’ll start as a cast member this week, on Oct. 25 when Jim Carrey hosts. Jones has also appeared in “The League,” “Workaholics” and “Top Five,” which comes out in December.

“SNL” Season 40 began just a few weeks ago and added two new cast members, Pete Davidson and Michael Che, who was promoted from writer to “Weekend Update” anchor.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Joins ‘Criminal Minds’ Cast

NEW YORK (AP) — CBS says Jennifer Love Hewitt is joining the cast of “Criminal Minds” this fall.

She will play Kate Callahan, a seasoned undercover agent whose superior work at the FBI has earned her a place in the Behavioral Analysis Unit. Hewitt is returning to series TV after five seasons starring on CBS’ “Ghost Whisperer,” which aired from 2005 to 2010. Before that, she was in the ensemble of the Fox drama “Party of Five.” Her films include “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and its sequel.

CBS says her “Criminal Minds” character will be introduced in the series’ 10th season premiere, set to air Oct. 1.

The “Criminal Minds” cast also includes Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore and A.J. Cook.
