Bane Movie Masks Selling Out During Coronavirus Pandemic

Bane masks are selling out amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

With many Americans still required by local governments to wear face masks or coverings while out in public, one of the most popular masks being sold online is of Tom Hardy’s incarnation of the DC supervillain in The Dark Knight Rises.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both cloth and plastic Bane masks — none of which are medically approved for pandemic protection, mind you — have been selling out online.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/19/ranking-the-batman-movie-villains”]

The trade claims Costume.com, BuyCostumes.com and HalloweenCostumes.com are all sold out of plastic Bane masks, while Etsy is selling over 150 variations of cloth Bane masks.

“Looking at sales figures, the adult mask had quite a sales spike in April and early May, which is unusual for this time of year,” Costume.com spokesperson David DeJac told THR.

DeJac added there are still full Bane costumes available which indicates that consumers were just interested in having the mask.

For more of our COVID-19 coverage, learn about how you can help and stay safe during the pandemic, and find out about all the movies and shows delayed and affected by the production shutdown.

Shoshanna Launches Mommy and Me Masks

Shoshanna, the women’s ready-to-wear, eveningwear and swimwear firm, has introduced Mommy and Me masks.
The mini masks are available starting today on its web site, as well as new color ways for adults. A complimentary mask will be included with every clothing or swim order while the supply lasts.
The company said it realized how difficult it is to convince children to wear a mask and thought matching adult and children masks might make it a little easier.
The mini masks are produced from excess gingham fabric and are reusable. They have the same features as the adult masks and are available in mint and navy.
The children’s face masks are $ 18, while the adult face masks are $ 20.
In addition, Shoshanna has donated masks to Mt. Sinai Hospital through Mask Match, which helps people with spare masks send them directly to health-care workers on the front lines.

G&G Garments, Jack Martin Fund Donate 8,000 Respirator Masks Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

G&G Garments and the Jack Martin Fund are teaming to donate 8,000 N95 respirator masks to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
The garment manufacturer, which produces private-label apparel found in retailers such as Macy’s, Dillard’s and Nordstrom, among others, is working with the Jack Martin Fund to obtain the respirator masks from its overseas suppliers and manufacturing partners.
The company is also developing 1,000 headbands — which make wearing masks more comfortable — for the hospital’s frontline workers.
G&G Garments president Glenn Reisender embarked on this initiative because he “felt it’s my civic duty and obligation to help out during the pandemic. With so many strong connections to suppliers and manufacturers overseas, I knew we could make a difference to those on the frontlines.”
The Jack Martin Fund also has a close connection with Mount Sinai, as its supported the hospital for 70 years.

American Eagle Outfitters Donating $1 Million and 1 Million Masks to COVID-19 Relief Efforts

American Eagle Outfitters is upping the ante on its fight against the coronavirus.
The retailer, parent to the American Eagle and Aerie brands, is now donating $ 1 million to COVID-19 relief efforts, along with a million face masks to healthcare workers, in an effort to support communities in need.
“A strong sense of community is at the heart of everything we do and is more important now more than ever,” Jennifer Foyle, Aerie global brand president, said in a statement. “While these challenging times are uncharted territory for all of us, this mission remains more important than ever.”
Other endeavors include Aerie’s contribution to the American Food Fund, the project launched earlier this month by Leonardo DiCaprio and Laurene Powell Jobs, along with help from Apple and the Ford Foundation, to help feed low-income families, senior citizens and children who rely on school lunches amid the crisis. Aerie would not disclose how much it is donating to the program, but said money raised through the fund will go toward nonprofit organizations World Central Kitchen and Feeding America.

New World Donates 10 Million Masks Via Vending Machine

Adrian Cheng of New World Development has announced a new initiative to help in the battle against the coronavirus: the donation of 10 million medical face masks to be distributed via vending machines.
Scheduled to be operational by the end of this month, 35 vending machines will be placed with NGOs in all 18 districts across Hong Kong, offering a safe and hygienic way to distribute supplies to those in need. More than 40,000 people in low-income communities throughout Hong Kong are expected to benefit.
The move follows an earlier donation from the group of 50 million renminbi and 5.5 million masks to communities in Asia and Europe under the firm’s #LoveWithoutBorders campaign.
“As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to spike globally, Hong Kong is now experiencing a second wave of imported and locally transmitted cases,” Cheng said.
He also added: “It is heart-breaking to see so many people suffer because they simply cannot afford or get a hold of masks, which have become so costly and scarce. Some disadvantaged groups have had to use the same mask repeatedly. By providing a consistent supply of medical face masks and distributing them through these dispensers, we ensure a hygienic and safe way of getting

Burton to Import, Donate 500,000 KN95 Masks

Burton Snowboards is doing its part to support health-care workers in the Northeast. And Adidas and Carbon have teamed on the West coast to pitch in.
Burton, the world’s leading snowboard manufacturer, which is based in Burlington, Vt., has committed to donating 500,000 KN95 respirator masks to medical personnel across the Northeast. Burton turned to Fudakin, its longtime snowboard binding factory partner in China, to obtain the masks and UPS Express to fly them to the U.S.
The first 48,000 have been delivered and will be distributed to hospitals across the state of Vermont and to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire, where the late Jake Burton Carpenter, the company’s founder, spent two months of his life in the ICU battling Miller Fisher Syndrome in 2015.
The additional 452,000 masks are in production and are expected to arrive in the next 10-14 days.
The Vermont State Emergency Operations Center, with support from the Vermont governor’s office, will deliver 50 percent of the masks to designated hospitals in Boston and New York City where the need is the greatest.
“It is a national disgrace that the medical supply chain in this country has not been federalized and that states are competing for desperately needed supplies,” said

Understanding the Different Types of Face Masks

As face masks are becoming more of a necessity for people around the world — and not just physicians and health-care professionals fighting the coronavirus — the purposes they serve are as varied as the individuals who wear them. Part of the increasing demand for masks stems from the fact that surgical masks and N95 respirators are not meant to be shared or reused.
The widely referenced N95 respirators and surgical masks are examples of personal protective equipment used to protect wearers from airborne particles and from liquid contaminating the face. In addition to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the regulation of N95 respirators in the U.S. is handled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The criteria for various medical face masks include material performance testing for bacterial filtration efficiency, differential, pressure resistance to synthetic blood, flammability and submicron particulate filtration efficiency.
With essential PPE scarce in many health facilities due to the COVID-19 crisis, the FDA recently lifted requirements for different masks to increase availability. For example, face masks that are to be used for medical purposes but are not meant to provide

Dior Reopens Baby Dior Factory to Produce Masks

HELPING OUT: As part of luxury conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s ongoing efforts to help supply masks to health-care personnel during the coronavirus crisis, Dior has reopened a Baby Dior workshop in order to produce masks.
The Baby Dior factory in Redon, in the Brittany region of France, started producing masks on Tuesday with volunteer staff, the French fashion house said.
“Dior is thereby actively committed to helping and protecting all those who are on the frontline of caring for us on a daily basis,” Dior said, paying tribute to the staff at the atelier for their “courageous” work.
Many French industrial facilities are at a standstill as the country prepares to enter its third week of confinement in a bid to stem the tide of new COVID-19 cases. Dior did not specify how many workshops it has in France, or how many people usually work at the Baby Dior facility.
Visiting the country’s biggest mask production factory on Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said France should produce 10 million masks per week by the end of April, triple its previous capacity. He hopes the country will be self-sufficient by year-end.

Carhartt to Produce 2.5 Million Masks, 50,000 Medical Gowns

ALL IN TOGETHER: As more companies are pitching in to ramp up production to fight the coronavirus pandemic, Carharrt is among the latest to join that effort.
The company plans to produce 2.5 million protective masks and 50,000 medical gowns starting April 6. Production will continue as long as these crucial items are needed for relief efforts.
The Dearborn, Mich.-based company has a history of suiting up America’s laborers dating back to 1889. In order to reach its initial production runs, Carhartt will be using its factories in Tennessee and Kentucky.
The U.S.-based family-owned business has 5,500 employees around the world. Employees in Carhartt’s production facilities have volunteered to produce these essential items and the company will continue to compensate them for their part in helping to support the country’s need for medical personal protective equipment.

Fashion Fights Coronavirus: Designers Create Masks, Hospital Gowns and More to Fight Pandemic

Many of the world’s fashion designers and brands have had to halt everyday operations due to the coronavirus pandemic — but now, several firms are reallocating resources to fight the virus’ spread.
As COVID-19 cases have sharply increased, affecting 341,500 people and causing 15,187 deaths globally as of March 23, so too has the need for essential resources, such as masks, hospital gowns and hand sanitizer.
Fashion designers including Christian Siriano, Brandon Maxwell and Michael Costello are coming in to help fill that gap, mobilizing their teams to produce supplies needed by health-care workers and COVID-19 patients.
Larger companies, such as LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Kering, L’Oréal and Coty are also pitching in, having their factories produce hand sanitizer to distribute free of charge to health authorities.
Here, WWD compiles the ways that fashion designers and brands are pitching in to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brandon Maxwell
Brandon Maxwell’s team is researching the appropriate medical textiles to make gowns for hospital doctors and nurses treating COVID-19 patients. He also aims to create medical grade masks and gloves as more information on manufacturing these supplies becomes available.

Fashion, Textile Cos. in U.S. Start Producing Medical Face Masks

American fashion and textile companies are starting to collectively produce medical grade face masks, as the country’s doctors and hospitals deal with a critical shortage amid a growing number of patients ill with COVID-19, or coronavirus.
As of now, nine companies have formed a “coalition” of sorts to get production going, according to the National Council of Textile Organizations. The companies are American Giant, Fruit of the Loom, Hanesbrands, Parkdale Inc., Los Angeles Apparel, AST Sportswear, American Knits, Beverly Knits and Riegel Linen.
The NCTO said Parkdale, the largest yarn spinner in the U.S. based in North Carolina, led the effort after the White House made clear there was an urgent need for medical supplies like face masks. The organization said the nine companies joined together “virtually overnight” to “build a supply chain” and “fast-track the manufacturing of medical face masks to help hospitals, health care workers and citizens battling the spread of the COVID-19 disease.”
Peter Navarro, an assistant to President Donald Trump and current director of the White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, has been working with the coalition and some of the first face masks have already been approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,

The organization said the nine companies joined together “virtually overnight” to “build a supply chain” and “fast-track the manufacturing of medical face masks to help hospitals, health care workers and citizens battling the spread of the COVID-19 disease.”

Christian Siriano Encourages Fashion Designers to Pitch in Designing Masks for Hospital Workers

GET TO WORK: Christian Siriano is calling on other fashion designers to join his efforts to sew masks for hospital workers in the fight against the coronavirus.
After tweeting to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday asking how he could get masks to New York City hospitals, Cuomo’s team responded immediately to help coordinate and to determine which hospital needs the masks first, Siriano said.
Now working from his home in Connecticut, Siriano said he and his team aim to make 1,000 masks for New York City hospitals in a couple of days.
Siriano also hopes that any other designer who has the production capacity to help will do so. “I really think that if anybody still has team members who are sewing or who can sew, especially in New York, we could make a few hundred a day. There are only so many people who work in a hospital. Fashion could really change everything in a week. Look, we have nothing else to do right now. Nobody is buying clothes so what can we do? I hope that everybody can pitch in.”
Siriano said, “I know that Monique Lhuillier has a full working atelier in L.A. Maybe she can help. Hopefully, everybody

Power Shots: Instant-Fix Face Masks That Really Work

Most of us poor fools have made the questionable decision to live somewhere outside of the state of Hawaii. And, right about now, our skin is paying the price: It’s plunged into polar-vortex temperatures, faces whipping winds head on, spends much of the day having any remaining moisture sucked dry stifling indoor heat, and then gets covered in makeup. In other words, a recipe for disaster. Breakouts, dullness, dryness, shine, it’s all happening at once? The solution? A shot. No, not of vodka – though, when it’s this cold, anything helps – an extremely fierce, effective face mask. A.K.A, a power-shot for your face.
