The Biggest Social Media Moments From NYFW Fall 2020

New York Fashion Week fall 2020 might have lacked some major designers, but the season was marked by a number of viral celebrity moments that played out on social media.
Comedian Leslie Jones, for one, caused a stir when she boldly cheered on models from her front row perch at Christian Siriano’s fall 2020 runway  Videos of Jones quickly went viral, with the comedian seen standing and enthusiastically cheering on model Coco Rocha, screaming: “Show them how it’s done baby!”

The star-studded front row at Tom Ford’s fall 2020 runway show in Los Angeles also produced a number of social media moments, including when Miley Cyrus was seen taking selfies with Lil Nas X, who famously partnered with the singer’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, on last year’s hit song, “Old Town Road.”

Pantone Fall 2020 Colors Make a Splash at NYFW Street Style

The street style set is embracing Pantone’s fall 2020 colors at New York Fashion Week.
The Pantone color projections are becoming a big street-style trend this fashion week, popping up in monochromatic looks, statement accessories and mixed prints. The colors are said to encourage experimentation and the blending of traditional hues, highlighting shades that are said to be genderless, seasonless and all-inclusive.
Pantone’s leading fall 2020 color, Amberglow, a dusty orange, has proven to be a favorite for many who are looking to the hue for monochromatic looks or paired with neutral pieces.

Colder temperatures and rainy weather has had many embracing the color projections for outerwear, including one of the more vibrant colors of the bunch, Samba.

Tanya Taylor Unsubscribes From NYFW, Launches Digital Series Instead

Will YouTube videos replace fashion week presentations?
Tanya Taylor launched this morning a six-part video series on Instagram and YouTube. The series stars Michelle Buteau, Gillian Jacobs, Sasheer Zamata, Zosia Mamet and Jane Krakowski acting out various “Fashun Week” scenarios while modeling the brand’s fall 2020 collection. It’s no different from an ad campaign, except the series is Tanya Taylor’s sole New York Fashion Week initiative. For the first time, the brand will not host an in-person fashion week event this season.

“Tanya appreciated showcasing her newest collections during NYFW, but after returning to the calendar for spring 2020, she realized that her customers weren’t able to fully participate in the experience in the same way that industry insiders were,” wrote a representative for the brand via e-mail. “As a result, the brand challenged itself to think of a new way to engage both the fashion community and its consumer audience at the same time.”
Since hiring Derek Blasberg as head of its fashion and beauty division, YouTube has been flexing its fashion muscle. It hosted creators James Charles, Liza Koshy and Lilly Singh at last year’s Met Gala. During the spring season, Blasberg filmed a handful of videos with various creators, for

Instagram Brings ‘Cheer’ Stars to NYFW, But Enforces Embargo on Content

“Cheer” stars Gabi Butler and Lexi Brumback made their New York Fashion Week debut at the Brandon Maxwell show on Saturday night, thanks to Instagram.
Before taking to their seats in the front row at the American Museum of Natural History, the Navarro College cheerleaders, who shot to mainstream notoriety following the wildly popular Netflix documentary’s debut, were escorted through the backstage area by members of the Instagram team, who were capturing content every step of the way.
But reporters who spotted the instantly-recognizable Butler and Brumback, clad in their signature black-and-red sparkly uniforms — “couture” creations by Rebel Athletic — were told by Instagram that they’d have to adhere to certain conditions if they wanted to conduct an interview.
Instagram employees told reporters that while they could video Butler and Brumback walking backstage, they would not be permitted to conduct a video interview. Then, those who did wish to conduct traditional interviews were told they could not publish the interviews until nearly a week later, on Friday, February 14 — essentially, an embargo.
The reason for this, an Instagram employee said, is that “Instagram brought them [Butler and Brumback]” to the show and the platform wanted to be the first to share content.

Katie Holmes, Danielle Bernstein Kick Off NYFW at an Intimate Dinner for Zimmermann

Wednesday night, once again sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann marked the beginning of NYFW with an intimate dinner.
“It’s so nice, so many of the girls I’ve known for so long now,” Nicky Zimmermann said of the evening affair at restaurant Don Angie. “It’s quite relaxed, we’re pretty relaxed as a brand. We aren’t uptight.”
The West Village haunt was packed with guests fully decked out in the brand’s flowy dresses, including Katie Holmes, Tabitha Simmons, Aurora James, Athena Calderone and Danielle Bernstein. Some of whom were overheard talking about their love for Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
“We talk about New York as being our home away from home,” the creative director said, having arrived from her native Australia last week. “I came here 30 years ago and thought I’d landed on the moon. It was New York in the Eighties and I fell in love.”
The designer hits the ground running when she is in town, spending her first days in the city looking in vintage markets for inspirations for collections to come,  but she did give a hint at what to expect at her Monday showing, calling it her “Lady Beetle” collection.
“It has a lot color

Selena Gomez Rules #NYFW: Tracking Twitter, Instagram By the Numbers

New York Fashion Week — or #NYFW, to be more specific — has a reach far beyond the more than 61,000 who shared content on Instagram or Twitter. According to numbers gathered by Pixlee, from Sept. 10 to 15, conversations using #NYFW and #NYFW15 had reached 6.6 billion people across Twitter and Instagram. Instagram posts with those hashtags garnered 37 million likes, and on Saturday alone, the conversation reached 2.1 million people. Of submitted photos, 78.4 percent were on Instagram and 21.6 percent were on Twitter. And the top engagement? That went to @selenagomez, posting about “feeling downtown chic” to Instagram from Polo Ralph Lauren. Even though she said “#imnotamodel #tryinsohard,” she obviously is doing something right; the post has 1,520,829 likes, and counting. (Fellow poster @brooklynbeckham also posted from the venue, but his likes were “only” in the hundreds of thousands.)

The Best Beauty Street Style From NYFW Spring 2016

The hoards of street-style photographers perched outside the shows in New York City may be fighting to get a snap of the most stylish attendees, but who says New York Fashion Week has to stop at the fashion? Ahead, the inspiring beauty looks that stopped us in our tracks.
The latest from allure.com
Mermaid shadow, sleek twisted ponytails, gobs of gold glitter—makeup artists and hairstylist upped the beauty ante on the spring 2016 runways. (Yep, you can say sayonara to no-makeup makeup.) It’s hard to choose, but these looks are our favorite of the bunch.

The Sophomores: Novice Designers Talk About Their Return to NYFW

Three designers who launched their collections at New York Fashion Week in February — Gabriela Hearst, Ji Oh and Laura Vassar and Kristopher Brock, the husband-and-wife team behind Brock Collection — discuss what they learned from their first experience and what they changed for their second act.
WWD: What was the most exciting part of planning your first NYFW presentation last season?
Gabriela Hearst: It was our launch season and we’d been conceptualizing the project for more than two years, so it had been a long journey to get there. Only a few trusted key people had seen the collection so we were very excited to finally show it.
Ji Oh: The most exciting part for me was the casting. Finding the right face and the right attitude isn’t so easy, but still very fun. When a girl comes in and tries my clothes on and looks great, nothing makes me happier.
Laura Vassar and Kristopher Brock: Seeing the world we dreamt of come together was the most exciting part. The days before our presentation were our favorite — the styling, casting, hair and makeup tests, and set design.

WWD: What was the most stressful or frustrating part?
G.H.: As the debut season was a very personal collection,
