Pyer Moss to Hold Drive-in Premieres for New Film ‘American, Also’

Kerby Jean-Raymond has been transparent about his process, being vocal about what he wants to do and when he wants to do it, and told WWD at the CEO Summit last October that he will have a show when he has something to say.
And now he’s ready to say it.
The founder and designer of New York City-based fashion brand Pyer Moss will hold drive-in premieres for his film, “American, Also”, following social distancing and lockdown requirements. The details of the event and locations will be revealed this summer.

The film, which has been two years in the making, follows Jean-Raymond and his team, partners and collaborators producing the Pyer Moss runway show in September 2019 at Kings Theatre in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The show was significant for its location — Jean-Raymond’s home neighborhood — as well as Its venue, which has been said to be unsuitable for black people.
The trailer begins with a clip of former NBC “Today” show anchor Matt Lauer saying neighborhoods are still segregated and that when black people move to affluent neighborhoods, “The result is ‘white flight.’”

COVID-19 Response: Pyer Moss Converting Office Into Donation Center, Establishing Fund

As attention began to shift Wednesday to medical professionals at the front lines of the coronavirus crisis, and how they are facing dire shortages of basic supplies, Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond stepped in to try to help fill the void.
The New York designer, who grew up in Flatbush, posted on Instagram Wednesday explaining that his sister, a medical professional, has been exposed to COVID-19, and that her health and that of her elderly patients has been compromised due to a lack of N95 masks. That story, and others about nurses resorting to rewearing masks after cleaning them with bleach, prompted him to convert his New York office into a donation center.
Jean-Raymond included his address on 27th Street in the post, asking for people to mail donations of masks and Latex gloves, and noted he will be contributing $ 5,000 to purchase supplies, if anyone can DM leads about where to buy them. The post received nearly 2,500 likes in an hour.
In a second post, he unveiled plans to set aside $ 50,000 for minority and female-owned independent businesses in distress that may be in trouble and unable to make payroll, asking people to contact an email address with the domain “yourfriendsinnewyork”

Wearing a “Dapper Dan”-embossed gold-embroidered caftan, André Leon Talley had prime seating in the center of Spring Place. Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond also sailed in to listen to what the 23-time Grand Slam champion had to say and to be among the first to see the S by Serena spring collection. Before 13 models stepped out for a brief presentation, Williams described the effort as “a fantastic, different, small collection.” She also noted there were vegan leather styles — a sign of her company’s commitment to sustainability.
Afterward, Jean-Raymond said while he does not know Williams personally, he does know Wintour, who invited him while at a dinner last week. “I’m obviously a huge fan of Serena’s so I just came out to support. She takes a very different approach than most celebrities, who kind of dabble in the fashion space. She really employs good friends of mine like Kesha McLeod. People who really know the space and have helped her elevate the brand, the collections
