Swimwear Trend 2020: Staycation Mode

WWD style director Alex Badia and his team styled via Zoom in a series of meetings, including a virtual “run-through” with the photographer unpacking clothes two days prior. On shoot day, the model was directed via Zoom on which look to put on and how to style it, like showing her a Grace Kelly reference to tie the scarf and what props to try, which were sent to her direct from Target. There was a Zoom meeting with the makeup artist two days before the shoot, who did sample looks on herself and sent new, unused makeup to the photographer. The makeup artist did a FaceTime tutorial with the model on how to apply the makeup one day prior to the shoot, and again on shoot day, while the model styled her hair as directed by Alex Badia.

As for the location: The shoot took place on the photographer’s rooftop to make distancing easy (and after he had been quarantining for six weeks). The result: a modern look at nostalgia in these buy-now styles, from pouf-sleeve tops and high-waisted silhouettes to playful prints.

BEACH LIBERTY: Eres and Bonpoint have teamed up on a collection of swimwear for mothers and daughters, bringing a modern breed of French, bourgeois elegance to the beach — or poolside retreat.
The collection, which drops Monday, includes one- and two-piece bathing suits made with the signature Eres fabric in solids — coral pink and sky blue — and accessories in Liberty fabrics, including a light pareo and a canvas tote bag. Prices range from $ 60 to $ 300.
“It’s an alliance of houses to make our clients dream,” said Marie-Paule Michelli, creative director of Eres. 
Also, Michelli and Bonpoint artistic director Anne-Valerie Hash have known each other over the years; their families even vacationed in the same, Corsican seaside town. 
It is the first time Eres has ventured into the children’s realm and Michelli said she learned about the intricacies of the territory.  
“We learned a good deal of rules that don’t exist in ready-to-wear — norms for children’s wear — it’s very meticulous,” she said, using a French expression that refers to work by an ant. 
“The norms are pretty strict — that’s why there aren’t so many fashion players that operate in children’s wear,” Hash chimed in. She ticked off some examples: ribbons need to be kept short,

Swimwear Brand Onia Offering Same-day Delivery to Manhattan Residents

Onia is now making house calls. 
Starting Thursday, the New York-based women’s and men’s lifestyle brand, will offer same-day delivery for Manhattan-based shoppers. 
The service is available for select men’s and women’s styles with a $ 25 fee. Customers can get same-day service Monday through Friday with orders placed before 1 p.m. Parcels will be delivered no later than 8 p.m the same day. Carriers will dispatch packages sans signature in order to remain in line with the city’s social distancing requirements.

Onia, the brand known for its luxury swimwear and resortwear, in addition to its ready-to-wear collections, took a dive into retail in March. The brand opened its first store, a two-level flagship at 962 Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, on March 12. 
Unfortunately, the store opening coincided with the coronavirus pandemic spreading across globe and retailers Stateside temporarily shuttering locations. As of mid-May, Onia’s New York shop remains closed to in-store shopping.
Nathan Romano, cofounder of Onia, said the business plans to reopen the New York store when it’s safe to do so. He’s estimating that will be sometime in June. In the meantime, Romano said swimwear sales — which average around $ 175 a piece — have

Kathy Ireland Forges Swimwear Deal With Trunkettes

Kathy Ireland has teamed with Trunkettes, LLC., a Los Angeles-based women’s swimwear manufacturer to co-brand a designer swimwear collection. The line will be introduced online for summer 2020 with a safari collection, which follows on the release of Ireland’s first novel, “Fashion Jungle.”
Additional themed lines will continue throughout the season.
Kathy Ireland Worldwide struck a deal for at least the next five years. Eventually the line will distributed to stores once they open up, said a company spokeswoman.
Hilary Genga founded Trunkettes in 2008, and its designs have been featured in several editions of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit issue, including one worn by Ashley Graham on the 2016 cover.
“All of us at Kathy Ireland Worldwide are delighted to be working with Hilary and her team,” said Ireland, chairwoman, chief executive officer and chief designer at KIWW. “It’s been a very long time since our company’s involvement in the fashion category of swimwear. Many industry leaders have asked for that brand extension, and their vision did not inspire us.” She said that after meaningful consultations with their KIWW team and long-term partners, they met Genga and decided to do it.

Lingerie and Swimwear Veterans Susan DeMusis and Dora Lau Honored at HUG Gala

Plus-size lingerie, skimpy swimsuits and other unmentionables were the buzzwords of choice at the HUG Gala Wednesday evening in Midtown Manhattan. 
The annual Project Help Us Give Gala — now in its 64th year — was formed by leaders in the lingerie and swimwear industries to raise money for charity. Executives from brands like Wacoal, Lively, PVH Corp., Ross Stores and Miraclesuit all donned their finest attire as they gathered in the penthouse of 230 Fifth Avenue to mingle over fancy cocktails and the sounds of jazz singer Pucci Amanda Jhones.  
“I’m not sure who put together the gift bags, but usually it takes me a full day in the sun to turn the same shade of the lingerie that was in those bags,” Dr. Steven Flanagan, medical director at Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Health, told the crowd of more than 200 people as they nibbled on New York steak and ravioli. He was referring to the scarlet-colored, lacy thong that was a party favor.

Veronica Beard to Introduce Swimwear for Resort

Veronica Beard, the ready-to-wear brand that expanded into footwear and jeans in 2017, is adding swimwear to the mix.
Beard, which is headed by co-designers and sisters-in-law Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard, will launch its first collection of swimwear and cover-ups for resort 2020.
The collection will be comprised of seven cover-ups and four styles of bottoms, four styles of tops and five one-piece models. The brand’s signature leopard print is included among the colorways. Sizes range from XS to XL, as well as XS to 2XL in multiple styles, as the brand continues to expand offerings in inclusive sizing.
Retail prices range from $ 178 to $ 495 for cover-ups and $ 108 to $ 368 for swimsuits. Company officials declined to give a first-year sales projection.
The swimwear is being manufactured in-house.
The swim collection will be available beginning in November at all Veronica Beard boutiques, veronicabeard.com and such retailers as Bergdorf Goodman, Intermix and Shopbop, with extended sizes offered at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.
The Beards started their eponymous brand, known for its feminine silhouettes and refined tailoring, in 2010.

Nick Graham Expands Into Sportswear, Swimwear

Nick Graham is creating a collection.
The designer and founder of the Joe Boxer brand will introduce sportswear and swimwear under the Nick Graham label for spring 2020 at the Project show in Las Vegas next week.
The sportswear collection is being called “Happy America” and is inspired by Fifties Miami Beach with a healthy dose of Graham’s signature ironic sense of humor. Rayon shirts, for example, are offered in pastel colors and feature prints such as a parrot smoking a pipe and wearing fedora and toucans with headphones and a flamingo with a large dollar sign.
“They’re not so subtle, but then I’ve never been subtle,” the designer said with a laugh.
He said he was inspired by a time when America “was simpler and not so complicated. I was looking at some imagery from that era, and the style seemed to match the optimism of the day. I wanted to try to capture that feeling.”
The collection includes unstructured sport coats, slim five-pocket jeans and chinos in stretch twill and multicolor cotton polos. The swimwear is offered in a variety of conversational prints that coordinate with the rayon shirts to create a cabana set look. Printed baseball caps and fedoras with novelty headbands

Fuzzi Launches Swimwear Line

DIVING IN: Fuzzi, the Italy-based, Aeffe SpA-owned knitwear company founded by Adele Bacchiani Fuzzi in 1954 — perhaps best known for producing knits for Jean Paul Gaultier in a collaboration that began in 1983 and lasted more than 30 years — is in expansion mode. Since the closing of Gaultier’s rtw business in September 2014, Fuzzi has made a name for itself with an expanded women’s collection that goes beyond its signature printed tulle knitwear. And for spring 2016, to build upon its lineup of dresses and separates, the company will launch its first swimwear line.
Marianne Hicks, who served as the senior vice president of Jean Paul Gaultier North America for over 20 years and joined Fuzzi in 2012, serves as the collection’s New York-based creative director. Hicks works closely with Anna Maria Fuzzi, the daughter of Adele Bacchiani Fuzzi, at the brand’s Cattolica, Italy-based factory, where the team continues to expand the scope of the collection. “Having developed Gaultier’s swim business from the beginning, I was very saddened when Gaultier shut his business,” said Hicks. “I always loved swimwear, had established relationships with the stores and knew that it was an area that I wanted to eventually explore with Fuzzi.

Swimwear Brand Everything But Water Creates Capsule Collection
