New York-based Fancy Teams With Hermès

NEW YORK — With Carlos Slim Domit, Kering and Ashton Kutcher among its investors, Fancy has a new tie to the world of luxury — a limited collaboration with Hermès.
The SoHo-based shopping app clued in some of its 10 million-plus global shoppers to three customized Hermès finds — the Kick, $ 780 men’s slip-on sport shoes with an Hermès print; the Nautilus, a $ 1,670 caplets pen, and Le Flaneur d’Hermès, an $ 11,900 carbon bicycle with leather accents. The Hermès for Fancy selection is meant to relay Hermès’ “timeless, yet contemporary aesthetic and Fancy’s dedication to offering premium, unique products from around the world,” according to an Hermès-approved post on Fancy’s blog.
“Fancy is a great way for Hermès to test a presence on a social e-commerce platform,” said Caroline Watchorn, Hermès’ digital development director.
To tout the trio of products, Fancy developed a parallax animation video that allows shoppers to control the direction of the bicycle. “We set out to create a fun and engaging experience around these products,” said Joseph Einhorn, Fancy’s chief executive officer. “We are grateful to Hermès for their willingness to try something new with us.”

Fans of Rodarte’s edgy-meets-artsy clothes (we’re talking to you, Natalie Portman, Amanda Seyfried), here’s a bit of good news. The 10-year-old fashion favorite has partnered with retailer & Other Stories for an affordable fashion collaboration to hit stores in the spring. The collection will include apparel, accessories and shoes. And while we haven’t seen the entire looks from the line yet, designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy gave us a hint—and it’s enough to make us want more. We’ll keep you posted on details as they come in!

London Designer Katie Eary Teams With KFC on Capsule Collection

PLAYING CHICKEN: KFC has recruited edgy London men’s wear designer Katie Eary in its mission to demonstrate how much can be done in a lunch hour.
As part of the fast food brand’s #PackMoreIntoLunch campaign, KFC challenged Eary to create a capsule women’s wear collection for spring 2016 in 60 minutes.
On the day of the challenge, 25 machinists sewed like crazy to create 13 looks, worn by 10 models in a catwalk show at the Old Truman Brewery in London.
The collection, like the playful and irreverent men’s wear Eary is known for, was brightly colored, with a palette rooted in fluorescent orange and green.
Butterflies were the print motif, superimposed over hypersized KFC chickens — it shouldn’t have worked but it did. Floaty silk chiffon minidresses and cropped tops came with a lovely ostrich feather trim in neon green.
A red bias-cut slipdress that reached just above the ankles managed to be sexy and sophisticated, while the twist-front swimsuits had definite commercial appeal.
Of course, some preparations had been made. The collection had been finalized two weeks before: All the patterns had been made, and almost everything had been pre-cut for the 60-minute sew-a-thon.

Jeremy Scott Teams With Melissa on Runway Show Shoes

MAN MADE: If the music at Jeremy Scott’s forthcoming runway show in New York comes blaring from the speakers singing, “Life in plastic, it’s fantastic” — the infamous lyrics from Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” — it wouldn’t be without good reason. That’s because at Scott’s Sept. 14 show, models’ feet will be bound in plastic shoes — designed in collaboration between Scott and Brazilian plastic footwear brand Melissa.
Scott — who will make his fashion week appearance straight off a noted involvement with MTV’s Video Music Awards — designed two Melissa-produced shoes for his spring show. Further information regarding their make, appearance and retail availability could not be learned.
In teaming with Melissa, Scott joins the Brazilian brand’s past collaborators including Vivienne Westwood and Karl Lagerfeld.

Baccarat Teams With Carolyne Roehm

CRYSTAL GALE: Carolyne Roehm is having a crystal moment. The multihyphenate decorator (and former fashion designer) styled some crystal creations in her Connecticut house to be photographed for Baccarat’s holiday catalog. And the French crystal-maker made its Paris flagship look like her home, including reproductions of watercolors she owns.
At a party in the Maison Baccarat on Thursday evening, Roehm reminisced about the first faceted Baccarat glasses that she ever purchased.
“Then they had the wonderful glasses called Provence that I still used,” she said, looking stunning in a Michael Kors dress, Verdura jewelry and high heels. “They are almost antiques now. I am sorry, but wine and Champagne just taste better in a pretty glass.”
Roehm’s house also is featured in her twelfth book, “At Home in the Garden,” which comes out on Oct. 27.
She entertains on a smaller scale these days than before.
“I have had 60 for dinner. Now, I find six to eight is my favorite way to entertain because then you get to talk to people,” she said.
Food-wise, she favors Italian.
“Give me a plate of pasta and I am a very happy lady,” said Roehm. “My entertaining is more casual — not in how I set the table but

Basta Surf Teams With Photographer Gray Malin on Resort Collection

SURF’S UP: Basta Surf will soon tout wearable art for an upcoming resort collection.
The swimwear company is set to deliver in November a collection in collaboration with photographer Gray Malin, known for his images of dreamy beach scenes. The collection fuses prints used from Malin’s photographs onto Basta Surf swimwear.
Malin and Basta Surf founders Emily Ford and Samantha August pored over Malin’s image collection and ultimately narrowed it down to prints that were blown up to create patterns for the collection. One was shot in Australia overlooking the beach on New Year’s Day and captured a giant wave rolling through. The other print was shot in Lisbon and captures beachgoers, picking up the bright colors from the clothing and umbrellas dotting the landscape.
“One really celebrates the water and one really celebrates the beach,” Malin said.
The collection, in which everything is reversible, consists of nine pieces. A one-piece swimsuit will retail for $ 218, two-pieces for $ 235 and a halter jumper with neon tassels is $ 398.
The line will be carried in Barney’s, Shopbop and Neiman Marcus, among other retailers.

Jeweler Lara Bohinc Teams With Lapicida on Furniture

CELESTIAL COLLECTION: London-based jewelry designer Lara Bohinc is working again with Lapicida, a British company that specializes in natural stone. She has designed a furniture collection that will launch in September at Decorex, the design fair held in Syon Park, near London. In 2014, she created the Solaris rotating table, which was influenced by celestial forms, and she’s looked once again to the stars — and to Venice — for her latest outing.
“I’ve visited Venice many times, but working with Lapicida has led me to see the city’s decorative stonework with a new and informed eye,” Bohinc told WWD. “There’s such an exciting visual mix going on there; you see classical stone marquetry techniques such as Pietra Dura alongside contemporary designs in marble. I love geometry and strong, graphic forms and I love rich, textural materials.”
Her three-piece Lunar collection includes the Half Moon dining table, the Sun and Moon coffee table and the Full Moon side table made from colored marble and brass or 18-karat gold-plated steel rims. Influenced by Venetian architecture, Bohinc has also used marble inlays, in colors such as Persian gold, verde Guatemala, red wine, black and gold.

Gucci’s Chime For Change Teams up With Global Citizen

In an effort to raise awareness about girls’ and women’s issues around the globe, the Gucci-led Chime For Change has secured a long-term partnership with Global Citizen, a group striving to end extreme poverty by 2030.
To that end, Gucci and Chime For Change have signed on as the presenting partners for this year’s Global Citizen Festival that will be held on Sept. 26 in New York on Central Park’s Great Lawn. Thousands are expected to catch performances by Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Pearl Jam and Coldplay.
Beyoncé will be right at home, and not just because she and Jay Z live in TriBeCa. In 2013, she cofounded Chime for Change with Salma Hayek to help raise funds and awareness for girls’ and women’s empowerment with a focus on education, health and justice. Through crowdfunding, the group has raised more than $ 7.3 million to support 409 projects in 86 countries through 144 nonprofit partners.
Never one to shirk the spotlight, Beyoncé helped launch the partnership with Global Citizen with an announcement video. Silver Jeans Teams With Jose Bautista

Silver Jeans is partnering with Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista on the Joey Series, a new limited-edition denim collection for fall.
Although the family-owned Canada-based brand has worked with celebrities on licensing deals in the past, this is its first time collaborating with an athlete on a men’s capsule collection. Owner Michael Silver said the relationship with Bautista started organically after a business friend who represents athletes suggested they work together.
“They invited me to a baseball game and he was absolutely not what I expected. He has a keen eye for fashion and wanted to get in on the fashion industry, but he didn’t want to put his name on just anything,” said Silver.
Named after Bautista’s moniker, Joey Bats, the Joey Series includes two styles: the Eddie, a relaxed-fit jean with a tapered leg, and the Gordie, a loose-fit, straight-leg jean. The Dominican player worked with the design team on subtle details that range from baseball-like stitching on back pockets and lead stitching on watch pockets to screen prints of old baseball cards on pocket linings and cross bat embroidery on waistbands. Kendrick Lamar Teams Up With Reebok To Design Sneakers And Keep Kids Off The Streets

Fashion news flash: Kendrick Lamar is teaming up with Reebok.

But this isn’t your average fashion/celebrity collaboration. The Grammy-nominated rapper is not only designing a collection of sneakers — like fellow musician Alicia Keys’ line for the company — he’s also helping the brand develop programs designed to keep kids off the streets.

“Reebok has a history of helping kids in the community realize their potential is limitless,” Lamar said in a press release. “I saw what the brand was doing, and I wanted to be a part of it and make it even stronger. It’s as simple as that. Kids that listen to my music are looking for inspiration. It’s important that I continue that message in anything I represent.”

In celebration of the partnership, Lamar penned a song entitled “I Am” and shot a video for it directed by Anthony Mandler. In the short black-and-white clip, Lamar is seen rocking the Reebok Classic Ventilator sneakers while rapping about his beloved hometown of Compton and how its shaped his life.
