Mapbox and SoftBank form joint venture to provide mapping tech to Japanese developersThe JV will provide Mapbox’s mapping platform, including APIs and data services, to developers in Japan. Between June 1 and September 30, Mapbox Japan will also provide up to three months of free support for organizations building COVID-19 related mapping services, including infection cases and statistical data, for developers in the country, which has relied on tracking virus clusters to limit the spread of infections.

Bulletin to Play Matchmaker With $7 Million Venture Capital Raise

Bulletin, a retailer steeped in technology that helps facilitate digital native brands enter brick-and-mortar, has raised $ 7 million in Series A funding in a round led by Foundation Capital with participation from Kleiner Perkins, Trail Mix Ventures and Afore Capital.
Since launching in 2015, Bulletin has met demand from brands by opening its own physical stores. The company is planning to use the influx of capital to help brands optimize and increase distribution at stores across the U.S. with the launch of a platform-enabled solution for brands looking for new stockists and retailers in search of a seamless way to source new inventory.
Until recently, the tried-and-true method of breaking into retail has been renting a booth at a trade show, hiring a showroom or paying a wholesale rep a large commission. Bulletin is betting that up-and-coming brands are ripe for finding a less costly and time-consuming solution.
According to Bulletin, the company by mid-2018, had a waiting list with more than 3,000 brands, which wanted access to shelf space. “We’re now able to serve the millions of digital brands that are struggling to find affordable, sustainable solutions for omnichannel growth,” said chief executive officer Alana Branston.

Brooks Brothers Forms Joint Venture in China

Brooks Brothers has formed a joint venture with the Walton Brown Group, a subsidiary of The Lane Crawford Joyce Group, for Greater China.
The 50/50 deal, which begins in January and runs for 10 years, involves Walton taking over Brooks’ 90 stores in the region and formulating an expansion plan to open more than 10 points of sale over the next two years in key cities in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. This will include both freestanding stores as well as “a deep investment in a multi-channel distribution platform providing wholesale, outlets, travel retail and e-commerce channels to bolster brand presence and fuel business growth in the region,” according to the companies.
The stores and e-commerce offering in the region will include Brooks’ signature men’s wear as well as the new women’s line designed by Zac Posen.
Claudio Del Vecchio, chairman and chief executive officer of Brooks Brothers, said the joint venture will “enable us to develop long-term growth strategies across multiple online and offline distribution channels especially in China, one of our most important growth markets for our global business. We are confident in China’s growth prospects in the premium sector for the coming years and this is the optimal time
